The Gambler didn't seem to have much practical use. None that he could find. The Genius was even more useless. Then there was this Neil Sommers. Who the hell was he? Also, what the fu— was a Robo-Frame? It seemed like he had a wild adventure that he couldn't remember.
He couldn't make sense of any of it so he decided to head to the academy. He wondered what type of conflict Jayo would create with him today. Breakfast felt boring and the route to school a snore fest. Just on a whim, he decided to take a different but shorter route.
That made no sense to him since he found the optimal route after months of sight seeing. How could there be a route that he hadn't discovered yet? Out of curiosity, he decided to follow his hunch. When he finally realized that he wasn't heading to the academy but some kind of lake, he had doubts.
That's when he saw the girl kneeing at the edge of the water. She was like an angel! Cat was beautiful, but she was like a goddess. For no reason at all, he made a mad dash at her. She heard, looked up, smiled, and began to jog in a circle around him playfully.
His screen displayed a number of %'s related to Odds and Probabilities. The probability that the girl found him interesting was 20%. The probability that the girl wanted him to chase her was 25%. The probability that he shouldn't follow her was 65%.
Then he saw every choice available to him. Low Stakes Gamble would roll a random number and literally based on how much higher the number was over 20, meant that it was guaranteed that the girl found him interesting. High Stakes Gambit would put the choice entirely on the girl, aka the House. Suicide Drive gave control back to him, except it was unusable. It had conditions and streaks needed to be met. But these conditions were not displayed. It said that only a Genius could turn a garbage Nano-Suit into a Godly one.
In Gambling, one way to beat the house was to count. But how did he do that with a Nano-Suit? A Genius Counter would have their own method for staying under the radar. They would win, and suffer losses, but always made sure the net profit was in the green.
As though following his thoughts, the Gambler brought out its sibling known as The Counter. The Counter was able to stack the favor in the odds of the Gambler without being caught. This was why the Counter was a literal Genius. It was such an incredible Genius that it could separate the odds from the Gambler and apply it to anything it wanted.
He wanted to know who she was and what was with the lake. The Gambler calculated the probability of each step succeeding while the Counter guaranteed a chance for it to happen. She would revolve around him for 10 reps and then stop and approach him. He should also stop but retreat at a slower pace then she advanced. He should look back at her and smile when she hugged him. She would look upset but after realizing she could trust him, would smile.
She was called Kitten. She was a Magician but wasn't very good with it. He asked her for a demonstration but she was very shy about it. The Sprinter ingeniously found a way to utilize its computational speed at a turtle's pace and composed a clever route with the Gambler.
He complimented her bravery, her ambitions, and her effort, saying he used to be worse then her. You could only go up and not down. She smiled, satisfied with those words of encouragement and showed off directly in front of him.
He was not an actual expert with WMRs academically, but today, he felt an amazing surge of insight about everything. Cat was the older sibling of Kitten. Their mannerisms were similar and so was the way they spoke. They both shared the same goals and dislike for the criminal underworld. Their mother left them by themselves at a young age and so they had to explore the realities of the world through trial and error.
Cat ended up in the underbelly to save Kitten who was trying her best to not make her sacrifice go in vain. Unfortunately, she didn't have a lot of success.
With a quick glance, he already knew what the issue was. She doubted herself too much because of her age and her relationship as the younger sister. It's not that she couldn't become a good Magician but that she didn't believe she could.
Therefore, he had to gamble that he could help her. The best way to do this was with a lot of luck. He decided to play a game known as '3 Card Monte' but without the stakes. He showed her an orange sponge ball and hid it under an empty bowl. He used his insane reflex so that neither of them knew where the ball might land.
The goal was not to follow the ball visually but to use a Magician's keen senses to locate the tiny sliver of magic that he had left in the ball. "Ah! That one. I can feel something", but it had nothing.
"See. I'm a bad Magician"
The girl cried on his shoulders but he only encouraged her. He pointed at a different cup. Asked her what she felt from that one.
"It feels weird. Like it's invisible to me"
Then they discovered that it was also empty. Then he pointed at the last one.
"It feels like a bottomless abyss. I keep concentrating but there's no end"
The ball wasn't anywhere else. Naturally, since there was one cup, it was the correct choice.
"Tell me more about the bottomless abyss"
"Whenever I try to cast Magic, it feels like it's being drained"
"Can you not redirect it anywhere else?"
"It's everywhere"
He researched her words on his Nano-Suit. He didn't connect to the web because he didn't need to. The bottomless abyss seemed to be common among those who were Void Magicians. It was similar to space but occupied a different dimension. It was a power source separate from the world's beating heart. Normally referred to as Origin Zero Magicians, they tapped into an original power source that was equal to the world's beating heart at its apex.
The problem was, there was a one in quadrillion chance it would be awakened at birth. You could awaken it later, but it was much harder. One in octillion chance. If the procedure was a failure, the person would die.
He researched how to awaken Origin Zero Magicians and after a while, activated the Gambler's Suicide Drive while relying on the Counter.
There was a massive quake like phenomenon hundreds of feet around them. It started as a crack beneath the two's feet and extended towards the largest population sizes in a spiderweb. The screams didn't faze him, well, he couldn't hear them. The abyss was an amazing sight. It was every possible reality all co-existing alongside each other. He saw Kitten try to practice magic but all her efforts bled into other places.
The second step to 'activating' her was to fuse all the realities together so that her magic could only be funneled into one spot. He had to gamble on the right area to strike.
Brawler! Sprinter! The Gambler's Counter!
The strike landed on a reality that happened to be one where Cat, Kitty, and their mother were all together and living as one happy family. The mom, 'Mama Cat', had experienced a condition called Parthenogenesis.
The damage pulled in every other reality to repair itself and once it was the only reality left, he found himself back in reality, staring at a new Kitten hovering in the sky. She was absorbing a massive amount of essence as the world bent and twisted around her.
The Nano-Suit was reporting unheard levels of Electromagnetic Interference that would disable every Nano-Suit that came into range. Origin Zero Magicians were incredibly powerful Magicians with terrifying passive traits. They had traits flying around them as well as active traits they could activate at will.
Null, Flight, Omnisight. Those were the passive traits. Nullification, Teleportation, and Prophetic Interpretation were the active traits. In other words, 6 traits that were correlated.
After the girl opened her eyes, she thanked him. She wanted to reunite with her sister and that they would meet up again in the future.
At the very least, it wasn't a waste. He discovered how the Gambler and the Genius worked. Also, he gained a powerful ally. Looking up, he realized he was late to class so the Sprinter rushed as fast as it could, but chose not to be early. Instead, Leo wanted to visit an underground establishment and test his luck in the ring.
He knew of a famous boxer called 1-2, You Never Saw Me. Used all kinds of tricks to beat his opponent. Was undefeated in the ring. He wanted to test the Gambler's odds.
