Chapter 43 - Preparing the Sous Vide Filet Mignon

[Host, this filet mignon is cut from the smaller end of the Grade Five Cloud Spotted Cow's tenderloin. It was given this name due to the moving cloud patterns on its black fur, which allows it to float. Due to the lack of needing to use its legs to walk and the lack of stress, the meat is tender, marbled with fat, and filled with Mana. If not for the restriction placed on the Cloud Spotted Cow, which prevents them from reaching above Grade Five, this Magical Beast would be one of the best sources of beef.] The System explained. Toward the end, it spoke in pity, lamenting the fact that such a great Magical Beast had to be restricted. If not, it would be akin to A5 Wagyu for Mages.

Lucian raised an eyebrow and suspiciously asked:

[Why do I feel you are insinuating something? System, if you have something to say, just say it.].

The System chuckled.

[Haha, the Host is wise.]

After a moment, the System continued:

[From my knowledge, this species of Cow only exists in Arcadia's Drakonoia Continent where most Magical Beasts live and thrive. It produces excellent quality beef. However, as the Host is already aware, all Magical Beasts have a Grade limit that cannot be broken."

Lucian nodded. He had an inkling of where this was going, causing his eyes to slightly light up. If his guess was correct, it would be revolutionary. He would be breaking the Universal Laws.

The System continued:

[As the future Transcendent Chef, how can the Host be limited by mere laws and rules, even if they were created by the Universe? To help the Host bypass the restriction placed upon all Magical Beasts, the Spatial Farm was created. The only downside is that the Host must acquire Magical Beasts on his own and then rear them inside the Spatial Farm. The System cannot provide Magical Beasts!]

Lucian was silent as he pondered what the System said. He did not know the first thing about how to rear Magical Beasts. Let alone Magical Beasts, he had not reared even regular animals before.

However, regarding the so-called uselessness of the Spatial Farm, his viewpoint changed completely.

A moment later, Lucian complained to the System.

[System, I have never reared an animal. Then, how do you expect me to rear a Magical Beast? Also… how do I even bypass the restriction placed on Magical Beasts? Shouldn't you explain more?]

The System replied:

[The Host will obtain more information after he enters the Spatial Farm. For now, please continue preparing the Sous Vide Filet Mignon.]

Lucian sighed and shook his head. He looked down at his hands, or more precisely at the filet mignon in his hands, and smiled excitedly. The texture was like butter.

For a chef, being able to use such a high-grade ingredient was an honor.

Sous Vide Filet Mignon was actually a simple dish to cook. Instead of requiring years of practice and technique, good old Chef Sous Vide would take care of it. In fact, what a Sous Vide Machine could do was not re-creatable by even a master chef. Simply because a sous vide machine will always perfectly and evenly cook the food.

Since Chef Lucian had cooked regular sous vide filet mignon countless times, and with the knowledge and experience provided by the System, Lucian was an expert.

Lucian set the filet mignon onto the chopping board and then washed his hands so he would not cross-contaminate the food.

From the counter, he grabbed the Soaring Ox Koasher Salt glass container and generously sprinkled the filet mignon on all sides, ensuring each side was well salted, not just the front and back. After that was done, he ground the Weeping Willow Black Pepper grinder and generously seasoned all sides.

Next, Lucian had to add the aromatics. With the flat side of his knife, he gently pushed down on the red bulb of Hellfire Garlic. As soon as the bulb was separated into pieces, Lucian sighed as he watched the cloves disappear, leaving only one remaining on the chopping board.

[System, I'm not a thief!] Lucian stated matter of factly,

[Host, I am merely doing my job. I never called you a thief; however, if you believe yourself to be a thief, then there is nothing I can do about it.] The System cheekily replied.

[When did you learn to make fun of me?] Lucian was surprised.

Without wasting a second, the System solemnly replied:

[Of course, the System learned from the best.]

Lucian was speechless, understanding the System was talking about himself.

With a shake of his head, Lucian grabbed a vacuum sealing bag from beside the sous vide machine and placed the filet mignon inside with a fresh sprig of Weeping Willow Rosemary, the clove of Hellfire Garlic, and a tablespoon of Cloud Spotted Cow Butter on top of the filet mignon.

After vacuum-sealing the bag, Lucian placed the bag beside the sous vide machine.

With the steak prepared, Lucian frowned as he thought about the next step.

[System, can't I use regular water for the water bath?] Lucian asked the System.

The System replied:

[Although a water bath is used simply to cook the food inside a vacuum-sealed bag. The vacuum-sealed bag given to the Host by the System is special and has the ability to absorb the Mana from the Mana Water into the bag. This will make the food within the bag even richer in Mana.]

After hearing the System's explanation, Lucian nodded. That information was not included in the set of memories he previously received.

Lucian walked to the fridge and opened it. His eyes were immediately drawn to the large container of Low-Grade Mana Water.

By his estimation, Lucian believed the water would be a couple of dozen pounds heavy. This was why a chef needed to be strong.

Carefully, he placed both hands on either side of the container and effortlessly lifted the container up. If he did not have the constitution of a Dragon, it would not have been so easy.
