He had repeated such actions a multitude of times that his body unconsciously, as naturally as breathing.
By the time Lucian arrived at his makeshift kitchen, the rabbit had ceased its struggle. It was still alive. But it had no fight left in it.
Breathing raggedly, the rabbit closed its eyes, knowing its end was before it.
Now that it no longer struggled, Lucian switched his hold on it, grabbing it only by its hind legs. He then brought the flat side of his knife down, hitting the rabbit behind its ears. In an instant, the rabbit, still breathing moments ago, went limp.
After placing the rabbit down on a chopping board, Lucian turned to Luke and said, "Okay, you can give me the other rabbit."
Luke went over to Lucian and handed him the rabbit, who swiftly ended its life.
"With that done, do either of you know how to make wooden skewers?" Lucian asked them.
"I do," Lucius said. "I usually cook our food."
