"What the fuck was that? How did it even happen?"
James shouted in fright and disbelief, he had no idea why multiple portals appeared. There was an utter silence by now after the seeming death of the 3 juniors. The rest of the two officers stood on guard with their weapons ready, ears and eyes wide open.
Not a single withered leaf moved nor any speck of dust flew. Suddenly a grim silence engulfed the whole area. James and his officers were on the right side, while Kier and Kyro stood on the left with a narrow crack in between them. However there was no way anybody was willing to risk his life to jump over that opening in the ground.
James looked at Kyro and saw him inhaling deeply as if he was trying to pick up some scent or anything similar. He could not understand what kind of stunting he was trying to pull, until James felt some irregular mana nearby. It was hard for him to detect the exact position without his devices.
He skimmed his gaze on the ground after alerting his officers, James was not sure from where the beast would pop out. On the other side of the portal Kyro had similar experience, whereas Kiera was recovering from the insanely deafening shrieks.
Kyro could sense the beast approaching when he tied his hair. However it took him a while to pick up the signs of the demonic mana. Since every portal disrupted the existing mana energy of the area through a few miles. It was easy to spot when or where a portal would appear.
Just as the portal was about to open underneath Kiera, he pushed the woman to save her from the same fate. When the gateway was opened it immediately closed because no prey fell into it. It relieved him regarding Kiera' safety as he shifted his attention trying to spot any other opening.
"Are you two alright?"
The whole area went quiet, not a single sound was heard. James looked at Kyro with a suspicious gaze while he inquired. The chief stood in daze upon witnessing how effortlessly Kyro could detect the portal without any device or aid. He could not be a meagre returnee with those kinds of skills.
Kyro nodded in agreement upon glancing back at the female officer who was now recovered from that horrible voice. He was sure that the beasts would never hold back until they got him. That was why he kept on the guard trying to find out any possibility of the upcoming attack.
The irregular mana which James felt was also sensed by him too. Kiera on the other hand felt that something was wrong with everything around them. How could Kyro perform such feats? And why would another portal appear after his arrival? There were many questions.
'Fuck no!'
Kyro was focused on the demonic mana and closed his eyes again after the brief talk with James. It did not take him longer to spot the exact position of the portal. He cursed under his breath upon realising that the portal appeared right in front of Kiera.
"Watch out Kiera!"
Kyro immediately turned around, whereas James and the two junior survivors yelled in horror. A three feet tall, round fur ball shaped creature appeared from the portal. It popped up like a bullet shot out of the gun.
The weird looking creature had blue fur all over his round body. It had no eyes or nose at all, instead had a big mouth with pointy countless teeth. The beast floated up in the air and somehow it could find the direction.
Kiera crawled backwards on her butt reflexively upon witnessing the furball floating in front of her. She had never seen any such creature and was frightened which paralysed her. The creature slightly glowed blue as it rotated 360 degrees while being in the air.
[Ttttt….food….fooooood….tttt….]
Its teeth made a noise when the beast apparently spoke, as it picked up the fear which was spread in the air. Kyro grasped immediately what kind of creature it was and upon what thing it fed. Whereas Kiera was frozen on the ground, she was an exceptional warrior who never knew defeat.
But that beast was feeding on her fear, making the woman hallucinate a vivid monstrous image of the creature in her head. The furball was known to enhance the emotion of fear within people and use it as the weapon to force them into imagining things. Similar process was going on with Kiera who did know what was going on in her head.
