Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: The Two Brothers

Running up to him. I ignore my leg screaming in pain. I bring my head close to his chest.

Thump... Thump... Thump...

His chest rising and falling. A wave of relief washed through my body. My heart calms as I examine his body. He has no open wounds on his body. Although he is covered in bruises head to toe. Holding his arm I could tell it was in no state to be used for a while. It not just bruised it was battered, it felt as though some muscles were moved about, even his veins felt off.

I pick him up and take him back to his bed to rest. I grab some food and water and place it by him in case he wakes up. I also fall back in bed, giving my leg a chance to rest.

I wake up and a day has passed. Thrain still hasn't touched his food, so I leave it where it is. Heading out side, my leg feels much better. Until Thrain wakes up I decide to focus on training I don't want to see Thrain injured like that again.

A few days later Thrain woke up. Trying to lift him self up, he ended up falling. Thrain looked down and tried to move his right arm but he couldn't. He went to touch it, fear welling up inside him. OW! Thrain let out a scream in pain. At least its not fully done for. Lifting him self up with his other arm now. He looked around the room. Remembering the lion that had just attacked him. How did I end up here. Thrain looked towards his brothers bed.

His brother was nowhere to be seen. The fear that had just left him swelled up again this time mixing with some hope. His eyes scanned the rest of the room. Thorin still nowhere to be seen.

He starts making his way to the entrance of the cave. His emotions starting to overwhelm him.

Looking out of the cave. His hope overpowered his fear becoming pure happiness as he saw his brother standing there. Thorin had a new air about him. His muscles seemed to be as firm as iron and his leg appeared to be even better.

Thrain ran jumping into the air, landing on his brother. Thorin surprised by the sudden attack couldn't help but smile at his brother. "Miss me?" Thorin asks with a chuckle. Tears rolled down Thrains face, "I'm so glad that your okay, I thought there was a chance you might never be able to walk again".

The boys continued to talk for the rest of the day, there was no purpose to there conversations they were just happy to be in each others company.

The next day had come around, Thrain still couldn't move his right arm but they had to push on. Fully prepared they exited the cave making there way to the forest.

Making it to the forest. It was eerily silent. They made there way inside. Thrain and Thorin were fully attentive.

Thirty minutes later.

Thrain could hear a whistling sound. Immediately his strength travelled to his feet and he dashed to where the sound was coming from. The whistling, a rock, slid off the shield as Thrain parried it. Within the same moment that Thrain had parried the incoming attack. Thorin at incredible speeds leaped at where the rock had come from, his great sword coming down on it like a meteor falling, ripping the creature in half.

Thorin jumped down and headed to Thrain. "When did you learn to do that?" Both of them saying at each other. Blankly looking at each other, they burst into laughter. "I guess we both got our own secrets now" Thorin nudged his brother. Continuing on through the forest they made it much further than last time.

They had to be getting close. Thrain could feel it. The feeling hadn't lasted long though as they were surrounded by a dozen humanoids. There cackling was horrendous. One cackle become louder than the rest as one out of the dozen dashed at Thorin with its claws extended.

Thrain before the humanoid even dashed arrived in front of its trajectory, shield raised. As the claws started to come into contact with the wood. Thrain pushed, the claws pierced the wood. Thrain quickly twisted the shield the humanoid following with. Now on the ground Thorin's blade quickly stabbed its throat.

"Two down only ten left" Thorin said laughing as his blade was already cleaving another one. Thrain rolled his eyes, three claws barely passing him. "Duck!" As Thrain's head come down his brother, slashed through all three like a crescent moon. Their top half of there bodies fell as another jumped towards Thorin.

Seeing another one approach Thorin while he was preoccupied, Thrain dashed at him bashing into him with his shoulder. Stumbling back, Thrain took the opportunity to kick its leg causing it to fall. His shield following the humanoid crushing its head.

Noticing his brother finishing his target, Thrain lifted his shield. Thorin running over, leaped onto the shield. Tensing his legs under the weight Thrain pushed as Thorin did the same, Sending him flying towards two humanoids like an eagle catching its prey. Sword behind him. He reached them, using all the momentum he swung. This time he cut right through them also knocking back a third. Landing he went to finish the one that got knocked back.

On Thrains side the last two humanoids went to slash at him. Barely dodging under their combined attack. Quickly Thrains leg slammed into the shin of one as he reached up towards the other, strength gathering through his arm as his jabbed at the humanoids jugular. The other one recovered from Thrains kick, had back off throwing stone after stone. Thrain had to just block, he couldn't advance at all.

Thorin had finished his fight. Looking over to Thrain he could see one humanoid on the ground choking while the other pelted his brother with stones. Thorin raised his sword above him self. Swing it down he let go at just the right moment sending the sword straight into the humanoid.

"Thanks" Thrain said as his brother retrieved his sword resting in the corpse. Heading over to the one that was chocking Thorin realised it had already passed on. They looked at the rest of the corpse Thrain felt no remorse, they had almost killed him and his brother.

Thrain shook his head. I can't be thinking like that, yes they did something horrible. They died for it, I need to let go of the revenge its been resolved

Thorin placing his hand on his brothers shoulder, seeing his inner turmoil. He tried to crack a joke, "Why did the chicken cross the street?" Thrain looked up "To get to the other side." "That's a good point, but what could a chicken possibly need to do on the other side." Thorin proceed to ramble on, questioning his own hypothetical. The sides of Thrains mouth started to lift, he's so stupid.

As they talked they made it deeper into the woods until the ground started to go from a small incline to straight cliff face.
