They had many tasks that were closely related to their future lives.
Internally, these included:
Learning to control the Engineering Golems and perfecting the construction of the fortress defenses.
Building sturdy bunkers, Anti-magic Walls, and Weng City.
Constructing more houses, factories, barracks, hospitals, and other such facilities.
Externally:
Clearing and reinforcing various passages.
Constructing stronghold outposts.
And completing two vitally important tasks.
Building roads and laying rail tracks.
Every road connecting the channels and the fortress not only needed to be flat and sturdy but also resistant to some degree of magic and corrosion.
The function of the rail tracks goes without saying.
