Backstage at the theater, Helena sat in her private dressing room, gazing at her own reflection in the mirror. After a while, she picked up a damp cotton towel and began to wipe off the performance makeup from her face.
Tonight was the evening of her secret rendezvous with Great Prince Charles, and, unless something unexpected had happened, Charles should already be waiting at her home. Therefore, Helena needed to quickly remove her makeup and apply it anew, so she could return home in her best appearance.
As she was busy removing her makeup, someone suddenly knocked on the door. Her assistant entered the room and said softly, "Miss Helena, someone outside has brought you flowers."
Flowers...
Could it be from Charles? If they were meeting today, why would he go to the trouble of sending flowers?
Helena didn't think too much of it and nodded, saying, "I see. Just have them left at the door; I'll take them with me later."
