Napoleon had already guessed that the Church of Wisdom was hiding something from him. Not long ago, he had questioned Pope Francois II, but Francois II refused to say anything, merely instructing him to attend to his own responsibilities.
What were his own responsibilities?
Napoleon sometimes envied Caesar, envious of his church that obeyed his every command. The Church of Wisdom was indeed powerful, but because of their power, they would not grant him the freedom he desired, always constraining him.
