In the dead of night, the sound of carriage wheels broke the calm of the night as two horses pulled a four-wheeled carriage through the city streets until it arrived in front of Znamensky Cathedral in the Central District. The soldier driving the carriage stopped the vehicle and, with a glance at the refugees who were either sound asleep or restless along the street sides, raised his hand to knock on the door.
Boom! Boom!
Creak...
The cathedral door opened slightly, revealing a dim face. Butler Lysild stood at the threshold with an oil lamp, gazing at the knocking soldier. He asked in a low voice, "What do you need?"
"I am here by Princess Katerina's orders to take Father Marvin out of the city," the soldier replied.
"Wait a moment."
Closing the door, Butler Lysild stepped past the refugees resting inside the cathedral, quickly going upstairs and knocking on the bedroom door.
