Zheng Tan followed Buddha outside—the West District Family Courtyard led close to the west campus gate where people came and went often. Luckily, Buddha had no intention of leaving the campus. He took a turn and walked along a path deeper into the campus.
Although they were indeed walking into the campus, at the gate of the West Courtyard, many people who knew Buddha passed by. Zheng Tan didn't know how many saluted him, and some whispered behind his back, wondering if he was Buddha's cat or why Buddha felt like taking the cat for a walk among other things.
If they had wanted to avoid so many people noticing them, it would have been easy. They could have used another gate from the West Courtyard and taken a quieter gravel path instead of walking this side near the campus gate.
Zheng Tan couldn't figure out what Buddha was really up to.
