The boy was startled, almost throwing his mechanical pencil away. Had it not been during a class, he probably would have jumped right out of his seat.
The math teacher on the podium glanced over, and the boy quickly sat down properly, pretending to write and draw in his notebook.
After two minutes, the boy took a peek at the person on the podium, making sure he was no longer being watched, before cautiously turning his head to look outside the window again.
The area not covered by newspaper was limited, so the boy could only see through it that there was a furry creature outside. Carefully distinguishing the silhouette on the window and connecting it with what he had seen before, the boy confirmed that squatting outside the window was a cat, a black cat.
Since the start of school, this was the first time he'd seen a cat squatting outside the window, and moreover, peering in through the small corner not covered by newspaper—a really strange cat.
