Just a simple word.
Her tone was stiff, her voice calm. What should have been an intimate address, when spoken by her, somehow gained a sense of estrangement.
It didn't sound like she was his birth daughter, but then again, someone who dared to speak with that attitude was unlikely to be adopted.
The four officers looked at each other, even they were a bit perplexed, realizing they were actually feeling somewhat nervous.
The officer holding the phone silently switched to speaker mode.
There was a moment of contemplation on the other end.
Then, a solemn and serious question came through, "What happened?"
The officer helping with the phone, hearing this, couldn't help shuddering, feeling a pressure descending upon his heart, and for a moment, he was so nervous that he swallowed his saliva, his expression wavering.
