Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Black Household

The team leader looked at Lu Yichen and asked, "How is the person doing now? Have they woken up?"

Lu Yichen said coldly, "They woke up once earlier, ate something, and then went back to sleep."

Luo Qiao knew this issue had to be faced sooner or later, and it was better to resolve it early to avoid complications over time.

So she got off the kang and was about to go out when she heard people approaching the house, and soon enough, a good number of them came in. Seeing Luo Qiao putting on her shoes, the team leader asked, "Girl, are you feeling better?"

Luo Qiao's complexion was still not great. After years of suffering with the Luo Family at the farm, except for being tall, her body was extremely thin.

With a weak voice, Luo Qiao replied, "I'm feeling better, thank you for your concern, Team Leader. May I ask Auntie Zhao a few questions?"

The team leader glanced at Gao Suhua then said, "Yes, ask whatever you want."

Luo Qiao asked, "Auntie Zhao, do you know where my parents are?"

Gao Suhua said evasively, "How would I know? The family left in a hurry that year, and just at that time, the Luo family wanted a daughter and so they took you away."

Luo Qiao asked coldly, "Are you sure I'm not your daughter?"

Gao Suhua said, "How could that be false? Just by looking at your face, you couldn't possibly be my daughter."

Everyone looked at Luo Qiao's face, which indeed bore no resemblance to the Zhao family members; all six daughters of the Zhao family had large faces, like their parents.

Luo Qiao said, "So what you're saying is you won't take me back with you to the Zhao family, is that right?"

Gao Suhua said, "Why would I take care of you if you're not my daughter? Of course, I cannot take you back."

Luo Qiao let out a breath and said, "But you took the Luo family's money and agreed to a clear separation. Now that the Luo family has left, you say such things. What am I supposed to do from now on?"

Gao Suhua replied, "Our Zhao family is not to blame. You were never our daughter to begin with. I can't neglect my own daughters to take care of an outsider. Moreover, that money was compensation from the Luo family for raising their son for them."

Turning to the team leader and the villagers, Luo Qiao said, "Team Leader, fellow villagers, you all see my situation now. The Zhao family refuses to acknowledge me as their daughter.

Since that's the case, I won't impose on the Zhao family. But could the village help me settle a household registration and find a place to stay? I can earn work points and support myself."

Luo Qiao knew that although the village had not yet distributed production to individual households and was still working for work points, those days wouldn't last much longer, as distribution to households was imminent.

Some villagers who were spectating said, "The Zhao family doesn't want you, why don't you just return to the Luo family? That's a city household registration."

Luo Qiao said, "You all saw what happened yesterday. The Luo family won't allow me to go back, and my household registration has already been transferred out. Yesterday's documents have already been handed over to Auntie Zhao."

Gao Suhua hurriedly pulled out several papers from her pocket and stuffed them into Luo Qiao's hands, saying, "You should keep these papers yourself; our Zhao family can't handle this."

Luo Qiao opened the papers and looked them over, then said, "Team Leader, if you won't take care of this, I will have to go to the commune. And who knows, I might even have to involve the police."

Gao Suhua said, "This is something that can be resolved right here in the village, there's no need to get the police involved. It would be a bad influence."

Luo Qiao said with a sense of grievance, "I need the police to investigate my birth. The Luo family has already transferred my household registration. If I can't settle my registration here, I'll have to ask for police assistance. I can't just become an undocumented person, right?"
