Chapter 6 - Chapter 5

And again that familiar feeling of hunger. Again our hero suffered from this unpleasant feeling, having spent all that he had saved with so much labor. But what could he complain about? If he couldn't constantly evolve, he would have long ago ended his miserable existence in someone's stomach.

"It feels like my stomach is stuck to my spine, or I just have a mini black hole in there. I'm so annoyed by these bastard insects! Where's my personal space?! Where's the fireplace, the blanket, the rocking chair and the hot lemon tea?! Why am I living in the woods, under a tree, in a stinking hole? Why am I like this? Uuuuu...!!!!... Okay, time to get busy, you miserable whiner."

With everything coming at him all at once these past couple days, his mood was on the verge of depression. But he couldn't sit around feeling sorry for himself. Though he was a small bug, he realized that his chances of surviving and regaining his serious human form were in his hands. He crawled outside, brooding and sad. Standing for a moment on the way out of his fouled lair, he decided it was time for a change of scenery again.

"Gotta find some intelligent life and settle down nearby. I'm going to end up completely feral like this. First, I need to eat, to stock up on provisions, so to speak. And be sure to develop poisonous fangs and reinforced jaws before I leave. I'll head south and devour the useful cockroaches." Why did he decide to go south? He just wanted to. There's no difference. He could orient himself by the sun at dawn, and then he'd be somewhere.

"Okay, how long until I starve to death? "Status!"

Skills

"Predatory Leap" - Sneaking up on a victim or feigning a sprout you can suddenly jump on the victim, grabbing it for further eating. The probability of success depends on your agility and fortitude stats.

"Insurance" - before jumping you can fix your web on a safe elevation, so that in case of a miss you can quickly escape or return to the starting position to jump on the next victim.

"Improved Wide Angle of View" - thanks to your 8 eyes located almost all over your head and their faceted structure, your angle of view exceeds 230 degrees. Take advantage of your advantage.

"Increased Viewing Range" - The more complex eye structure has increased your maximum viewing range by 40%. Just don't peek at the females, yuck to do that.

+"Heavy Spider Shell" - Spiders are protected by a tough chitinous shell. Your armor is based on the armor of the armadillo beetle. Increases your mass rather than reducing your dexterity by 20%. Invulnerable to attacks with less than 2.5 Strength.

+"Accelerated Growth and Maturation" - Your soul has greatly affected your behavior and body development. Your body is trying to keep up with your soul, changing at an abnormal rate. Your size is already three times the standard Spider-Wolf size. Strength, mass, armor strength, and energy consumption are significantly affected.

"Explosive Spider Muscles" - You have strengthened your body's armor beetle-type muscles. The density and strength of your muscle tissue is greatly enhanced. Strength of all muscles + 100%. Your OWL intake has been increased by 20%.

"Weightless Body" - Due to the immense muscle strength and low mass of your body, your base agility has increased by 50%

"Wow! That's some armor! My strength has doubled! I can't even be crushed by a ten year old child with my hands. And my body size is three times the standard size. An adult spider is supposed to be 3 centimeters long, so I'm now almost 10 centimeters long! I'm practically a tarantula! It seems that the molt coincided with the carapace reconstruction. So I haven't lost any energy. Although I can still be crushed by mass. But I'm feeling more confident. Now it's time for these pathetic insects to become my food!", the depression has lifted a bit. It's always nice to see your capabilities increase and your formerly formidable enemies become unworthy of meeting you!

Encouraged by these changes, and forgetting all about his melancholy, he ran merrily, almost at a gallop, straight down to the ground. He did not want to hide any longer, on the contrary, he had to find trouble on his heels. The wind was blowing through all eight eyes in a pleasant warm stream. Thanks to the wolf spider's sense of smell, our hero smelled the next victim right away. Adjusting his course, he went straight at the enemy head-on.

In 40 centimeters from him was digging in some rotten berry the same armadillo beetle that had torn off his paw during the first serious hunt. Its greenish shell had a metallic sheen that made it look like a small walking tank. It was time for the spider to test his strength against his formerly deadly opponents. He shot his huge body, now almost twice the size of the beetle's body, flew up to the shell carcass as if in slow motion, stuck his front paws into the ground behind him so that he had something to hold his victim's carcass against, and sank his fangs into it.

It was lightning fast, the beetle only had time to twitch before it was bitten in half. Due to its size, the spider had greatly strengthened its body, and the reinforced chitin, even three times thicker than usual, was simply unstoppable. It didn't take him long to devour the bug, replenishing his depleted energy reserves. This time he ate the victim with the shell. No time to waste!

After about twenty minutes, he smelled another interesting prey. Even by ear it was clear that the prey could fight back even in its new form. It was tearing up some small animal, and it was clear by the satisfied squeak that the hunt had been a success.

As it got close enough, the spider peered out from the top of the stump that stood between them. On the other side, there appeared to be a huge spider eating a medium sized mouse that was still alive. The spider appeared to be poisonous. It had a bright coloring and resembled something like a black widow from the home world. But it was even bigger than our hero, so I don't know what kind of creature it was. Besides, the mouse was alive, but it didn't move. Probably paralyzed by the spider's poison.

"It's a dangerous opponent, even for me. I can't approach her without a plan of action. One thing's for sure, while she's busy with the mouse, we have to act, or her vigilance will increase later. So, what do we have? Solid shell, good strength index, good eyesight. I can use a spider web... Whoa! That's an idea!"

He quickly climbed back down from the stump, running around the spider with plenty of distance to make sure he wasn't in its field of vision. On the other side of the stump was a young tree. About 40 centimeters away from the future mouse-eating victim. Our hero tied a spider's web, reinforced five times just in case, and stretched it, moving to the left of the tree.

Using centrifugal force to gain speed and better entangle the enemy, he constantly jumped to gain speed, which was already twice as fast as normal. Thanks to its high fortitude, our spider managed to coordinate its actions right in flight, turn its head backwards, and, flying over the spider, grab its front leg with its jaws, tearing it off by inertia. The enemy didn't even have time to realize anything, as he flew away into the night distance with his forelimb.

The creature was twisted in different directions, the poor thing was in pain. Without waiting for its response, our spider accelerated in the opposite direction. Again in flight I managed to grab his second front paw, pulling it out with the meat. The black spider lost stability without support and tumbled forward. Trying to get up while fighting the pain in his body, he turned around towards his attacker, or rather the direction he flew off. He couldn't see the enemy because of the distance, but he could hear him quite well.

He accelerated again with his jump and webbing, aiming for the spider's head. The longer he dragged out the fight, the greater the danger of being poisoned. The spider, crippled by his first attacks, saw him but had no time to react, delaying his bite by only a fraction of a second. He managed to bite off half his head, along with his eyes.

Landing twenty centimeters away, our trickster plowed the ground once again. With his strength, he could seriously dig into the ground. Having untied himself from the web, he immediately went to the defeated spider, who was already lying motionless. As a result, he now had two prey at once, a mouse and a spider. But the mouse was poisoned, so first he needed to devour the black spider to develop immunity to its poison.

Trying to exclude the poison gland, and the channels for poison supply, as well as fangs, the winner devoured the carcass of the defeated enemy. To be honest, he didn't think he could fit so much into it. His appetite and stomach capacity had increased with the size. Either it has nothing to do with the stomach and there is just a limit to the maximum accumulation of OSJ. Maybe it depends on body weight and size? Well, the important thing is he got what he wanted.

Grabbing the mouse carcass, the spider dragged it away from here. He didn't want to attract any scavengers. Luckily, he noticed a tree trunk nearby. So, to be on the safe side, he decided to hide up there with the mouse carcass. After an hour and a half, he finally nested at a height of three meters, in a deep crevice of a cracked trunk. Lucky there was such a hiding place. "Now I can check my status. Oh, I'm tired again... My whole body's aching again. Did I overexert myself?" - the spider tried to weave a web to hide himself and the mouse corpse. But in the process of this fascinating activity he collapsed and fell asleep. It reminded me of something else.
