Chapter 11 - Potential II

A staff flashed across the brown-haired boys face, stepping back to avoid it the staff curled like a serpent hitting his neck.

The darkness around both their eyes portrayed they had been using their agros.

The sweat dripping and disheveled breathing from the boy proved he was in a disadvantageous position.

All the exchanges they had experienced only lasted ten minutes till this point. Although the brown-haired boy possessed superior strength and speed the fluid style and control of the girls staff handling made her unreachable.

It was a battle of attrition, only she weighed him down making it easier for her to have the advantage.

The brown-haired boy eye's still burned with resolve, he wasn't going down that easy….

Charging in, he went for around round of attacks.

The battle ended after the other round of confrontation, the girl named 'Aurl' was surprisingly talented.

Although I do not know the basis of her agros, it seemed to be able to distort the opponents senses.

Unfortunately for the brown-haired boy, it was a bad match up form the beginning.

The class still had a vague sense of uneasiness, just because the first spar was relatively easy doesn't mean the rest were going to be.

The next pair were called and the cycle repeated itself. The matches that came after the first one were nothing special.

Non could defeat or dominate their opponent like the first battle, most spent majority of the battles trying to analyze the agros of the opponent.

It was finally time for the battles to change, one of the children belonging to a duke was going to be fighting.

Lucas stepped into the middle of the training ground, his confidence exuding a certain charm.

His gaze locked on his prey, the brown-haired girl with a flower around her hair.

She was mostly relaxed, her gaze gentle passed me locking on her opponent. Whether if it was the gaze of pity that fell on her or the savage that stood in her presence….

Felina didn't show a hit of fear.

It was almost as if she couldn't feel her surroundings. Her concentration was unparalleled right now.

The teacher signaled for the battle to begin, taking action both of them sprung at each other.

The resultant force of their impact fractured the air, shockingly felina landed the first blow. Her right hand found it way to his left abdomen effectively stunning him.

Gauntlets of bronze decorated her fists providing defence and improved offense in close combat.

But Lucas stood unmoving, from the very start of the fight both had been actively using their agros. Looking at the silver plate that adored his abdomen the dull pain radiating from felina's hand was enough to know the strength of his agros.

He swung his left hand downwards in hopes of crushing her skull, a sharp glint radiated from felina's eyes slipping backwards.

The red gauntlets on his left hand materialized out of thin air, appearing almost instantly.

A slight frown became evident on felina's face, it was a tricky agros to deal with. The gauntlets on his right hand disappeared before a spear was created in it's place.

Picking up the pace, Lucas lunged at her aiming to piece her thighs. Feeling the danger in the confrontation felina kept her distance.

Although it would prove insufficient, her shoulders and thigh muscles were slashed as crimson liquid drip from the openings.

She hissed as a sharp pain radiated from the wound…

The short pause occurred as she fell unto the ground, bending on one knee she looked onto Lucas.

He stood tall and composed playing with his prey, it was almost like a predetermined fate to him….

It was impossible to beat a dukes son.

Felina stood with little difficulty showing the injures she sustained were light work.

Her mindset and demeanor underwent a drastic change, her soft look had been replaced with a look that emitted pure hatred.

Under the sunlight of the training ground her injures started to heal little by little.

She ran head first towards him bashing her gauntlet at the side of his head. A helmet was formed in time for Lucas to not take damage.

While a dagger was materialized on his left hand stabbing her.

A sinister smile crept onto her face as she used her gauntlets to grab the tip of the dagger, using her other hand she continued to slam on the helmet caving it in.

Drops of blood flood through her scarlet hands but her mind was empty to the pain.

CLANK!!!

CLANK!!!

CLANK!!

CLANK!!

CLANK!

The sound of metal getting hit reverberated throughout the training hall, Lucas helmet was about to be caved in.

Seeing his unfavorable conditions he was quick to undo his helmet.

Dodging the next punch that aimed at his head, he stretched forward to bite a pieces of her ear. Felina screamed in pain as her bloodshot eyes stared daggers at the mouth blooded Lucas.

He spat a piece of her ear to the side smiling, it was a disgusting scene to watch but we all couldn't dare to avert our gaze from the center.

Felina's bleeding had stopped and the sun was peaking at high noon. The silence had greatly been overshadowed by the disheveled breathing of both participants.

Lucas conjured two swords, one resting on his shoulder while the other pointed at his blooded opponent.

Her focus re-aiming itself at Lucas, she slowly shifted her right leg backwards stretching both her hands outwards bending over.

Within a second, her feet kicked of the ground cracking the earth beneath it. Appearing with doubly shown speed, a sword arched across the side of her face nearly taking her head off.

Evading with swiftness and precision, she maneuvered around Lucas attacks before wrapping her hands around his neck while her feet swept him onto the floor.

Before Lucas could get his bearings, felina mounted him unleashing a barrage of punches.

A well known fact about agroses, that conjured objects was you needed concentration to materialize them.

So from the moment felina mounted him, the fight was already done all that was felt was an onslaught.

Lucas laid battered and beaten on the floor while felina sat on top of him as his blood dripped down her face.

All the students remain motionless and quiet until the instructor announced the winner.

*****

"Felina, you've won go get yourself treated" I said watching her drag her body towards me.

"Don't worry about it, this is better for me plus I'll heal. And I don't want to miss your spar." She replied flashing me a smile.

I shook my head in disapproval but let it pass, if she didn't want to it was decision.

The other spars processed smoothly with little to no struggle, most quickly figure a way to bypass their opponents agros or just plainly overwhelmed them.

Most of these cases happened when the other opponent was in a higher rank but there were some weird fights

Prime example was the fight between the banged eye girl and a blond haired boy wielding a axe.

The fight had not processed past the first second when the bandaged eye girl removed a portion that covered the left part of her eye.

An immediate reaction was perceived by her opponent, his body went limp rolling around on the floor screaming.

He looked like he had just seen a ghost or something, there wasn't really any explanation before the instructor stepped in to end the spar.

Nothing really noteworthy happened, as the we passed through most of the other spars quickly before it was finally my turn.

The anticipation amongst my classmates was at its peak, not only had no child of a duke lost apart from Lucas.

This was a fight between a dukes son and the princess of the empire.

The One that was Acknowledged by the Emperor VS The Youngest Prodigy.

The platinum blonde hair girl stood at the opposite side of platform, as a great sword rested on her left hand.

For someone that short it was an odd sight to see, I had a long sword with a dagger wrapped around my knee.

We both waited for the instructor to announce the beginning of the spar, but for some reason I had this foreboding feeling….

It was the most familiar feeling for me dread.

"BEGIN"
