Maximillian pushed himself off the blanket and gathered Julian into his arms. His wary eyes scanned through the surroundings. From this vantage point, all he could see was a flurry of bewildered people dispersing, like startled deer leaping away from unseen danger.
The alpha retrieved his gun from his waist and dragged Julian along with him.
"Don't say anything," he hissed at the omega. "Don't leave my side, keep your eyes open at all times."
"Mm."
Several terrified shrieks were heard before more gunshot noises followed. Maximillian clenched his jaw.
It wasn't even a few months ago that he had led a team to take down a mass shooter at the city's biggest mall. The incident resulted in 20 casualties in total, 3 dead and 17 heavily injured. The perpetrator was shot to death on the spot for resisting arrest.
