She said that she wanted to talk to a police officer, but once a Bureau's agent stood before her, her bravado dissolved into a whimper and a cowering retreat.
"I didn't mean it!" Deanna sobbed. "I just want to win. Please don't arrest me!"
Deanna covered her face with both hands and cried into her palms.
Maximillian grabbed Shadow Mist's reins. The horse bristled at the touch of a stranger, particularly one who reduced its owner into a puddle of tears.
But a single, icy glare from Maximillian, laced with dominance, was enough to quell the horse's defiance. Shadow Mist snorted, offering one last huff of reluctant submission, before lowering his head in grudging acceptance.
"Julian."
Maximillian extended his free hand at Julian. The omega put his hand atop Maximillian's and hoisted himself off the horse.
