Chapter 121 - But Not Dead

Ichijō Mirai nodded politely, "R.I.P."

After a brief blessing for the deceased, he stomped open the door to the operating room and looked back at the trance-induced unlucky doctor, "If you don't want to push him to the morgue, it's time to go."

The time is now 0:40, but the whole hospital is already bustling with activity. Many excellent surgeons have arrived, including some who specialize in gunshot wounds.

They were here for Matsumoto Kiyonaga, who unfortunately died of his wounds.

In fact, before he arrived at the hospital, one of his feet stepped on the Sanzu River. After five or six injections, his vital signs began to rapidly drain away, and his other foot slowly lifted up and stepped towards the Sanzu River.

Ichijō Mirai went to the locker room to change out of his scrubs, bypassing the doctors who were just arriving and avoiding the others who were still coming.

There are many things that are not allowed in the operating room, such as cell phones.

Before entering, Ichijō Mirai put his cell phone on silent mode, which turned out to be a wise move.

The phone was vibrating like crazy, displaying a dialing alert.

There were also 23 missed calls and 15 text messages.

The missed calls and text messages consisted of two unfamiliar numbers and Morofushi Hiromitsu, all of which appeared to be quite deadly.

The dialing alert that's ringing is for Morofushi Hiromitsu.

Ichijō Mirai picks up the phone, "Hello?"

There was no one in the locker room, so he turned down the volume and put it on speakerphone, leaning back against the closet absently, pressing his cell phone to exit the call screen, and reading the text message, "What can I do for you?"

Hiromitsu Morofushi's voice was a bit urgent, "Are you working the night shift today?"

"Matsumoto Kiyonaga has been injured and is being treated at Tohoku University Hospital!"

"He..." he paused and quickly inquired, "Can you find out anything? What's the situation now?!"

That's the right question.

It just so happens that the resuscitation process was a bit rushed, and there was no announcement of the tragic news to the family at the end.

Ichijō Mirai, with a sense of ceremony, said in the heavy tone of a doctor who ends a resuscitation and informs the family, "I'm sorry, but I couldn't save him."

"Today at 0:39, Mr. Matsumoto has passed away."

Morofushi Hiromitsu fell silent, and the only sound left on the other end of the line was the sound of breathing.

Ichijō Mirai, too, finally flipped through the long list of messages that made him impatient at first glance to find the first message.

It was from Inuo.

He introduced himself as Inuo and said that he had gotten the number of Ichijō Mirai's academy cell phone through the police, and that he had to bombard them with messages in a hurry after his calls went unanswered.

At the end of the message, he explained that Matsumoto Kiyonaga had been injured and was being transported by ambulance to Tohoku University Hospital.

Ichijō Mirai was already in the operating room when he received this message.

The second message, again from Inuo, briefly recounted Matsumoto Kiyonaga's various deeds and his role as an authoritative leader in the police field.

It's so long that Ichijō Mirai glances at it, realizes that there's actually a faction within the police, and simply frowns and skips it, going straight to the third message.

The third message was simple, and it was clear that the sender was in an agitated state: [Matsumoto Kiyonaga can't be dead!]

Ichijō Mirai: "?"

The fourth message is still very simple, and Inuo calms down a bit and quickly explains his reasoning: Matsumoto Kiyonaga is the leader of the 'Acceptance Faction'.

The reason why the police didn't just kick Ichijō Mirai out, but instead went after the entire academy together, was because there were two factions fighting over Ichijō Mirai.

The Acceptance Faction started out weak, but gradually strengthened with Ichijō Mirai's excellent performance, and then completely outperformed the Rejection Faction during this special training, so the future was supposed to be bright.

But Matsumoto Kiyonaga died.

The Acceptance Faction was decimated, and immediately returned to a weaker state than it was at the beginning.

Next, the Rejects, having regained the upper hand, could have reveled in firing Ichijō Mirai outright.

They don't need to do anything more, as the training program of pretending to be a criminal is a special program that the police academy can find fault in whatever the cadet does and find a reason to expel him.

So, Ichijō Mirai is about to be expelled.

His undercover mission is about to fail.

When the news of Matsumoto Kiyonaga's death gets out, the 'soon' will be dropped.

Ichijō Mirai: "..."

He stops pressing the down button and silently presses it up a dozen times to find the text message that's too long to read, and realizes that Inuo mentions the Acceptance Faction after briefly describing various aspects of Matsumoto Kiyonaga's factional leanings.

One of the main points: Matsumoto Kiyonaga is the first person who deserves to be in the acceptance faction.

Many of the acceptanceists and neutrals had even turned to Matsumoto Kiyonaga, or not turned to the enemy, because of the favor they had shown him.

Ichijō Mirai muses, "Hmm..."

He looks down in silence.

The fifth text message, Inuo is still a bit panicked, with the beauty of having said everything but panicking about not contacting Ichijō Mirai, so he makes hard contact.

The text message is about the exact reason for Matsumoto Kiyonaga's injury.

He's Search Division 1 management officer, and while he's usually in charge of the back office, he's an elite officer who occasionally gets into action himself.

This time, it was due to a lack of manpower.

The reason for the shortage is that the police are searching for police cadets all over Tokyo.

Ichijō Mirai again: "..."

Seems like he's got a little bit of the blame.

...I told you that chasing a police cadet in such a hurry would have bad consequences, so can the police do it!

The sixth message was from another unknown number.

Without introducing himself, this unknown number sent a direct order after three failed calls: [Matsumoto Kiyonaga is seriously injured and is being treated at Tohoku University Hospital, go ask for information...]

[As a last resort, you can help him.]

[He can't die.]

Matsumoto Kiyonaga died, Ichijō Mirai's undercover mission was almost a 100% failure, so he couldn't die, and it's easy to guess who can say that in a commanding tone, it's the equivalent of exploding a codename.

Ichijō Mirai looked at the short text messages, and replied heavily: [Unfortunately, Mr. Gin, who is not a smiley person by nature, your [Matsumoto Kiyonaga] has been recalled in arrears, and is currently on its way to the morgue].

The other party quickly replied: [?]

In the system bar, the Enemy list is refreshing: [Gin | Health | Irritation | 4 stars].

Ichijō Mirai looks at 'irritable' a few more times, and continues reading.

The rest of the messages were partly from Inuo and partly from Hiromitsu Morofushi, who had gotten the message a few moments later.

On the other end of the line, after a long silence, Hiromitsu Morofushi finally spoke, "I heard that Administrator Matsumoto..."

After a pause, he didn't finish the sentence and added, "Kujō-san, you..."

"I know you're in a hurry, but I'm already in a hurry enough for you," Ichijō Mirai finished scrolling through the text messages, and warned with a friendly reminder, "Wake up, Morofushi-san, you're in the 'rushed to look for me after the instructors had left, and didn't even hear the instructors' conversations, and didn't know some of the secret stories about me' persona."

"How did you know that Administrator Matsumoto was a pie recipient of the Acceptance Faction, and that his death would affect my future? You checked."

"Huh, is that even possible to find out?"

Damn it!

Shouldn't this kind of information be classified? Even if it's not confidential, it can't be publicized. How can a police cadet just look it up.

The police have gone too far, haven't they?

"..." Morofushi Hiromitsu said, "I searched for some keywords, and got a general idea."

But not much, just the details, not a single piece of information related to the case, just the two attitudes the police currently have and the people who represent them.

He said, "Since Matsumoto Administrator he has passed away,"

Ichijō Mirai interrupted, "Matsumoto Kiyonaga is dead,"

"But not completely dead."

"I know you're in a hurry but don't rush, and don't think I'm in a hurry for saying this, of course it's okay if you do, I'm in a real hurry, I'm in a hurry and you're letting me off the hook."

"See you later!"
