At Prescott's residence, Nathan was seen rushing to his car, his wife Claire, behind him.
He got in, and Claire followed suit, as they buckled their seat belts.
"We have to hurry! This could be the only solution to our problems." She said as he started the ignition.
For four years, the Prescott family business faced a lot of challenges that almost liquidated their assets. They were almost at the point of bankruptcy.
But a few weeks ago, a multi-billionaire business enterprise announced the investment of five billion dollars to build a five-star hotel in Lake Hill. Construction companies as well as interior designers were all set for bidding.
Prescott's family business is based on construction, so they submitted a proposal immediately hoping for positive feedback. They had almost given up hope, not until a few minutes ago, Shirley, the personal assistant of the CEO had called them, requesting their presence to finalize the contract.
They didn't know they could get so lucky!
"I can't believe this," Claire said with a smile, as she brought down the mirror compartment in the car, fixing her make-up, "Can you drive faster?"
"This is the fastest I can go, Claire."
Just then, her phone rang and she picked it up.
Nathan could hear the faint voice of his father-in-law on the other side of the line.
"Dad...we are on our way to finalize the contract!" She said, "Natalie can find her way home from the airport. I don't..."
The car came to an abrupt halt, causing them to move forward with force and the phone flew out of Claire's hands.
Nathan looked at her in shock.
"Natalie!? What do you mean, Is Natalie back in town?" He asked, surprise written all over his face.
Claire held her chest, her eyes widening.
"Is that why you decided to almost crash the car?"
"Answer me, Claire! "
She rolled her eyes, shrugging, "Yeah, she's probably coming in today. Dad managed to 'convince' her. I'm really surprised that b***h is still alive."
"Convince her? How the hell was he able to get in contact with her? It's been years," he said.
"Uhm... You do remember we have an appointment now, right?" Claire said, rubbing her forehead.
She couldn't help but feel agitated. That hopeless sister of hers is finally returning, and as much as she hates to see her face, she needs her...
Natalie's return wasn't entirely news to her as she had orchestrated the plan with her father who claimed he was critically ill and needed to see her.
Natalie was naturally soft-hearted. She just has to come sign the transfer papers and the company will be hers. Claire thought as she chuckled inwardly.
Nathan, on the other hand, couldn't place his fingers on what emotions he felt upon hearing the news of her return. He had so many questions but decided to keep them to a minimum.
The rest of the car ride was silent, each person to his thoughts. In no time, they were driving through the garage of Z K Enterprise.
As soon as they alighted, they headed straight into the building where they were met with Shirley herself.
"Welcome Mr and Mrs Prescott. This way please," She said gesturing towards the elevator.
"Thank you, Shirley. This means a lot to us. We hope this collaboration will be a successful one." Nathan said as they walked into the elevator doors.
"We look forward to working with you too. We just have to finalize the contract with the CEO. She had just arrived and is eager to meet you both."
"That will be wonderful, " Claire chirped as the elevator came to a halt.
Shirley ushered them into a large room that was five times as large as anything they'd ever seen before.
"Wait here, I'll notify the CEO of your arrival." She said, stepping out as they took a seat on the cushion.
Nathan cleared his throat and fixed his tie, wanting to look as presentable as possible as the contract is not one to be taken lightly.
The news of Natalie's return had left him shaken quite a bit, but he had to compose himself to make a good impression.
The door suddenly opened and a tall slim figure of a beautiful woman emerged in sight. Her high heels clinked on the tiled floor as she walked into the room.
Nathan and Claire stood immediately.
"Ms. Smith, allow me to introduce you to the potential bidders of the contract, Mr and Mrs Prescott. They were the ones I was telling you about."
Nathan was mesmerized by her beauty but couldn't help but furrow his brows in confusion.
"Ms. Smith??" He murmured to himself.
Just then the woman removed her sunglasses and smiled sweetly.
"Nice meeting you, Mr. and Mrs. Prescott."
Claire gasped, almost falling on her heels as she stuttered, "Nat...Natalie!?"
Nathan on the other hand looked like he had just seen a ghost, his mouth, open like a fish out of water.
He couldn't believe that the woman standing before him was actually...his ex-wife?
He blinked his eyes repeatedly,
"Shirley, I have no interest in working with these people. This contract is nullified."
She said and turned back on her heels, stepping out the door.
A confused look was plastered on Shirley's face. She looked at the couple before her, wondering what they might have done to anger the CEO. As far as she knew, they'd presented an incredible proposal and had a bigger chance than other bidders... But why were they rejected??
The room was silent for a few minutes and then Nathan rushed through the door. He ran down the halls, hoping to catch up with Natalie.
He heard footsteps close to the elevator and rushed towards it seeing the doors were about to close. Quickly, he rushed forward and used his hands to hold it back.
Natalie looked unfazed as she stared at him through her long lashes.
"Natalie...we need to talk." He said and she chuckled.
"I don't think so, Mr Prescott. We have absolutely nothing to talk about. Now, if you'll excuse me." She made to press the button but Nathan held her arms.
"Natalie!" He breathed, "I... I'm sorry,"
She laughed, "Don't be delusional, Mr Prescott. What are you sorry for?" A small smile played on her lips as she looked over his head at the person standing there.
"You know what I'm talking about. Natalie, it's been years. I haven't been myself ever since we parted. I... I...I need you."
"Nathan!!?" Claire's voice screamed behind him.
He turned, surprised to see Claire. For a moment he had forgotten he had come here with her. He opened his
mouth to speak when a deep voice echoed in the hall.
"What the hell are you doing touching my fiancée!!?"
