It seemed that whatever creature was behind me was way bigger and stronger than me, a normal person would already have run toward the opposite direction, but as an immortal I wouldn't be scared by a simple roar.
As I moved toward the sound I started to see many broken trees, it was like an hurricane passed that way, all vegetation in a forty meters radius were destroyed.
After some minutes I glimpsed an huge shadow, it was at least 5 meters long and it was eating a body of what seemed to be a 3 meters elk, as I approached the shadow I recognized that it was a four legged beast, his fur was of a very dark brown color with some gray spots, it had long claws that seemed capable of slicing even rocks, whatever that beast was it was probrably something out of my reach.
'System, what is that creature?' Out of curiosity I tried asking the System what beast that thing might be.
'It's a shadow bear, even if it's not totally evolved it's still a strong being for an earthling, it can't be compared to a normal bear'.
'System what are my chanches to beat it' I asked full of expectations, even if low just knowing that I had a chance would have relieved me.
'You have 0% chance of winning' The System aswered mercilessly.
'Are you really sure'.
'Yes, thanks to my data and knowledge I can assure you that you don't stand a chance against it'.
'Well, luckily it doesn't seem to have seen me, immagine how bad things would have gotten if that were the cas-SNAP'
As I looked below me a little twig snapped under the pressure of my bare feet, at the same time the bear turned his head towards me, looking straight in my eyes.
"Fuck".
By the moment the bear started to move it's legs I already started to run towards the opposite direction, with all the strenght I could gather from my body, I ran like a mad man.
"If that thing takes me then I will became his lunch, I don't really wanna to resurrect in a stack of shit, why God? why the twig had to break right at that moment? why?"
Suddendly, while I was cursing at that damned Enmir, I felt a gust of air at my side and soon after I felt an excruciating pain at my left arm, in the midst of the pain I looked at my left side just to be welcomed by the absence of my arm and the long trail of blood that I left behind.
Stopping from the surprise I looked around just to see that the shadow bear was nowere to be seen.
"Were the hell did that bear got himself into?"
While thinking that, I felt another gust of air and to my surprise an enormous cut appeared in my back, giving me ulterior pain, this time understanding that this was not going to be the last cut that I would have got standing there I started to run again, this time towards a rocky area that I saw while walking toward the bear.
While running I felt the pain flood my mind making difficult even the slightest thought,
as i ran toward the rocky area I individuated many caves that probably could fit me whole, after another few seconds of running I saw one that was big enought for me and at the same time small enought for the bear to block enter.
I launched myself in it like a dead body (thing that I almost looked like) and after seiing that the bear couldn't enter I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After almost an hour of tries the bear undertood that he couldn't eat me so he got away in search of a new prey probably.
Almost all my wounds were recovered so I took a moment to think, how could that bear hit me while invisible, was that an unique ability, a skill or whatever, if it weren't for this cave I would probably be in his stomach right now, while thinking that I decided to ask the System for help.
"Hey System, how did that bear hit me and at the same time being invisible ? " I asked.
'The shadow bear has the innate ability to stay inside the shadow of the prey and to attack them while staying hidden, making him a very dangerous enemy, since it was still evolving it was only able to attack and stay hidden briefly furthermore he took you as a toy, not as a prey, he was only playing with you, if he wanted you dead you would't be here right now, you've been lucky'.
"Well at least not everything has gone wrong, now I know what I need to avoid at any cost".
Looking my left arm that had already growth back I realized how weak I was and that if I wanted to reign over this forest I would have needed to be way more strong.
"It would be better to avoid that bear and his claws....at least for now"
While saying this a little fire of revenge lit in my heart waiting for his time to shine.
