Chapter 4 - Mysterious Watch

He rushed in the direction of his apartment, almost losing his balance when he bumped into someone. "Sorry," he muttered, but there was no response.

He stole a glance and saw that the person he had bumped into was his neighbor, a girl. He sighed, knowing the girl would try to flirt with him again like she had been constantly doing whenever she spotted him. Right now, he wasn't ready to deal with another encounter, but before he could stop her, she walked past him.

His brow furrowed, too stunned to speak.

She walked slowly, as if she was counting each step she took, muttering words under her breath until she was standing in front of her apartment door.

She tried to open the door, her hair covering a part of her face, and she kept on making grunting noises, but her fingers couldn't turn the doorknob. Worse, she couldn't even place the key into the lock.

Kia continued to stare at her as she struggled, and after a while, she began banging her head on the doorframe. She didn't stop, repeating this action until she began to bleed.

The blood trickled down her head, covering part of her face and dripping on the floor. Only then did she stop, rotating her head slowly to face Kia, who was still standing in front of his apartment door.

Kia stared directly at her, and that was when he noticed a change in the color of her eyes to blood red. She grunted again and took a step toward him. His heart began to race again, and without waiting any longer, he rushed into his apartment, slamming the door behind him.

Kia leaned his back against the door and slid down to sit on the floor. He placed the cake and other things he had bought beside him before burying his head in his palms.

"What the fuck was that?" he thought. Was he seeing things again? He shouldn't have stopped taking his medication, and now he's seeing things.

As he continued to sit there, he felt wetness in his nose. He touched his nose with a finger and saw that he was bleeding.

Kia stood up and made his way to the bathroom, switching on the light as he walked in. He looked at himself in the mirror and could see the blood pouring out of his nose. He turned on the tap, letting the cold water flow and brought his face close to it, splashing the water onto his face. He looked at his reflection again and felt relieved that the bleeding had stopped.

He ran a towel under the tap and placed it on his nose, trying to soak up the remaining blood. After a while, he tossed the towel into the sink. His gaze then shifted to a bottle of his pills in the cabinet.

He sighed and opened it, taking two pills at first and then five more, not caring whether he was overdosing.

Three hours later, he had eaten something from the goods he had bought and had drunk three sodas.

Kia was now lying on his bed, staring up at the ceiling like a lifeless corpse, thinking of nothing except how useless his life was. After a while, he dozed off, only to wake up to the sun beginning to set.

His eyes were red, and he didn't want to move, but sluggishly he got up and picked up the cake that he had left on the floor. Now he was sitting on the floor, staring at the burning candle he had lit on the cake in front of him.

He continued to stare silently at the cake until the candles had completely burned out, leaving a puddle of wax on the top of the cake.

"Happy birthday," he muttered quietly. He was finally 18.

He took in a deep breath and slowly exhaled before standing up and walking to the corner of the room. He picked up the bag filled with the supplies he had bought that morning and pulled out a rope.

Kia silently walked to the center of the room. He pushed the cake aside with his foot and set up a chair that he used to climb up.

Today was the day. A day to end his miserable life. He couldn't take this anymore, and as hard as it might be, it was the only option. After all, he had no one, so there was no one who would miss him or mourn him when he was gone. Even in his death, his gravestone was going to be left blank because he had no one to put his name on it.

He chuckled mockingly. Even his death was pathetic.

Carefully, he tied one end of the rope to the ceiling fan and the other around his neck. He stood up on the chair, took in one last breath, and jumped, knocking the chair to the floor with a loud thud.

Kia struggled and gasped for air as he felt the rope tightening around his neck. His vision started to become blurry as if he felt himself running out of oxygen. Just when he was about to lose consciousness.

Bang!

There was a loud sound from outside, causing his room to shake. The rope snapped, and he fell hard to the floor. He wrapped his hand around his neck and began gasping for air. "Fuck it! I almost died," he yelled.

He looked around his room, wondering where the sound came from, when something fell from his ceiling, hitting his head before landing on the floor beside him.

"Shit!" he groaned, touching his head. "What the heck was that?" his eyes searched the floor until he landed on a wristwatch.

Kia furrowed his brow and picked it up. "What the heck is this?" he said, examining it closely.

He hadn't seen this watch before, so he was sure it didn't belong to him.

Intrigued by the mysterious watch, Kia slipped it onto his wrist, admiring the sleek design.

"This is so… ahh!" he yelled in pain, feeling sharp stings like needles as the watch pierced into his skin.

"Ahh!" he groaned, floundering, blood dripping down his wrist, and then suddenly he felt a surge of electricity coursing through his body like he was being electrocuted by ten thousand volts of power. Kia collapsed onto the floor, shaking violently as the watch continued to shock him. He tried to pull it off, but it was stuck fast to his wrist.

The pain was so intense that Kia lost consciousness, his body going limp. He lay on the floor, still and silent. A bright light suddenly appeared on the watch screen.

Ding!
