Chapter 2 - Hidden Schemes

On the bus, Voye and Clyde talked about their lives.

The last time the two had met in person was several months ago; they usually spoke on the internet.

"Honestly, if you move to the capital, you won't be so lonely like living in this city." Clyde said, smirking at Voye's confusion, "Sam and Ral live in the capital."

"I wonder how they are doing; it has been so long since I last saw them," Voye said in a low voice as his gaze softened.

"So we are going to meet them at the cafe too." Clyde revealed the surprise.

Voye did not respond, instead casting a worried glance out the window.

"It's gonna be a long ride, so just take a nap." Clyde sighed and closed his eyes, "I wonder how the rest is doing."

When Voye heard that, his expression fell, and he leaned against the window.

"Clyde, do you think those that awakened powers back than are traitors to mankind?" He whispered quietly.

Realizing he should not have said that, Clyde narrowed his eyes.

Without receiving any response, Voye unfolded his panel and started rewatching individual episodes.

Voye's panel was visible to Clyde, so he glanced over there too.

After some time, Clyde asked, "That show... did not the third season finale end?"

"Yeah. The side couple I shipped, the ship sunk before it could sail properly." Feeling even worse, Voye sighed.

"I offer my condolences." With a lowered head, Clyde gave Voye a shoulder pat.

"Why must they die." Voye mumbled and shook, "They do not deserve it."

Clyde just continued to pat Voye's shoulder while he muttered.

"Shut up!" There was a kick to Voye's chair from behind.

Voye stopped talking, and Clyde turned around to glare at the person.

"Hearing you keep talking," the woman's head lowered as she spoke, "I can not accept the ship sinking!"

'Eh?' Clyde did not expect that.

"You watch that show too?" Voye turned around and faced that woman.

The woman said, "Rain and Max forever," as she lifted her head, closed her eyes, and clenched her fist in front of her chest.

"Rain and Max forever." Voye closed his eyes and muttered.

Clyde muttered, "I do not know these people," as he used his hand to shield his face from Voye.

Following that, Voye and the woman discussed the show while Clyde took a different seat. The two were occasionally crying, occasionally giggling.

'Wow what happened to bro first?' With his arms crossed, Clyde observed from behind them.

After noticing a notification on his panel, Clyde opened it.

[ DumbS: Sorry I just finished a mission, what did you want to tell me? ]

After casting a quick glance up at Voye, Clyde turned back to his panel.

[ Me: Meet me here at night. *link* I better not smell any blood on you or you are buying the food later ]

[ DumbS: My mission today didn't involve any death, don't worry ]

[ Me: I don't trust you didn't get your hands dirty ]

[ DumbS: fair enough ]

Clyde glanced out the window and gave a small shake of his head.

The bus would still pass through a few cities before arriving at the capital.

Clyde raised an arm and rested it on it, lost in thought as he looked up at the sky.

After several hours, the bus finally arrived at its destination.

"Captial City, Space Star." The robot announcement began playing.

Compared to when they boarded, the bus was almost full when it arrived. Together, Voye and the woman exchanged contact details as a sizable group of people stepped off the bus gradually and said goodbye.

'How the hell did they talk about a show for so long?' Clyde wondered as he stood next to him.

But when he saw Voye's happy expression, he smiled too.

"Alright, let's go. It's going to be midnight soon." With a flash of light on the outside of his shoes, Clyde said, "I told the two we would meet at one."

Voye stood looking around in a daze, his ears picking up on Clyde's words.

"It's night time, yet the city is still so wide awake..." He mumbled, seeing how there were still crowds of people moving around.

At last, Voye looked at Clyde when he coughed.

With a broad grin, Clyde said, "Welcome to Space Star, the capital. It is as large as space and has an endless number of stars that shine constantly."

"Ooo." Voye nodded, realizing now what the name meant.

Clyde asked, "Are you able to hover? If you can't, it's best we find another transport. If you are too slow, you will get squashed the moment you stepped out of this station."

"Nope!" Voye said, flashing a smile and a thumbs up.

"You give the wrong impression with that smile and thumbs up." Clyde lamented, wanting to punch Kraz.

Clyde went and rant a bike to go to the cafe. The bike was on wheels, so it could not hover like many other vehicles.

Voye felt a surge of nostalgia as he sat on the back of the bike. Right before he could fully rotate his body, Clyde stepped in.

"We will be arrested if we do not follow the laws."

"Oh." Voye nodded, "Sorry, its a habit."

He held onto the bike's side handles and looked around.

'There's no space to ride how you want... it's just follow the law...' Voye said to himself, his gaze softening, "The difference is like day and night, but there is no point thinking about it anymore. The town is not even on the map anymore."

After letting out a sigh, he turned on his panel and linked it to this new network.

'Wow... the stuff here are so much more...' Voye browsed through the social media app anonymously.

'There's so much happening here.' A few articles caught his attention as he scrolled through them.

[ Breaking News: Internal fighting among Powered humans? Knights found nearly dead at East Avenue. Possible accomplice with monsters struck!? ]

Voye was taken aback upon seeing the picture and thought, 'Who is so brutal? Working together with monsters might explain it.'

Voye lowered his head even further at that final thought: 'Why is there so much infighting when monsters are destroying small villages and towns?'

Leaning slightly to the back, Voye thought: 'Perhaps they are not too close to any cities? It is hard to tell where the monsters will show up too.'

An hour later, they arrived close to the cafe. However, Clyde needed over half an hour to locate a place to leave his bicycle.

Clyde brought Voye to a newly opened cafe.

Stepping inside, the cafe wasn't crowded. This medium-sized cafe had a long counter where two people worked, one making coffee and the other serving customers.

With the exception of the stronger coffee scent, it was just like any other cafe.

"Voye?"

The sound of that voice pierced his heart like a dagger.

Casting a sidelong glance, Voye saw faces he had not seen in a long time.

Even though he knew he would see them, he could not help but shiver a little upon seeing them both once more.

Tears were forming in the corners of his eyes, but he was not sure if it was because he was happy or sad.

Parts of his eyes were hidden by his hair, and his scarf covered most of his lower face.

Clyde, who was standing next to Voye, observed how the three responded and sighed softly as his eyebrows slightly relaxed.

'Hopefully, this will also allow them to unwind a little before the main mission. I must also make sure Voye moves to this city, or at least out of Treo City,' Clyde thought to himself, his lips moving unconsciously.

Clyde had a chilly light in his eyes as he observed everything.
