Listen Mahender Kshatriya lineage are allowed to hunt as the animals are also considered to be produce of the forest. The Kshatriyas who are allowed to take produce from forests are also allowed hunting but occasionally. Their hunting should not disturb the balance of the forests. These hunting also allows Kshatriya to get used to blood and death. So as not to scared in times of war.

Well Mehender himself has no problem with it even before reincarnating in this yuga he had occasionally eaten meat.
