Right before Jia Li returned, Fu Hua called Butler Lu through the intercom.
"Is my grandfather still up?" he inquired.
"Old Master just finished a meeting. Would you like to speak with him?" asked Butler Lu.
"Yes, I'll be there in two minutes," replied Fu Hua before ending the call. He rose from the bed, grabbed the gold pendant and hurried to the door. Just then, Jia Li entered the bedroom.
Seeing him at the door, Jia Li appeared startled and asked, "Where are you headed?"
Fu Hua offered a forced smile, subtly concealing the gold pendant. "I need to verify a meeting guest list with Grandfather, I'll be back shortly."
Understanding the matter seemed urgent and related to the elder, Jia Li stepped aside to let him leave, reminding him, "Don't take too long—I've prepared a drink for you."
Fu Hua pecked her cheek, assuring her, "I'll return promptly," then he brushed past her, leaving Jia Li alone in the bedroom.
