Ava's barely suppressed anger surged again at Nathan's words.
"Is that all?" Ava asked coldly, and Nathan nodded, his face changing color.
Ava took a deep breath. She couldn't argue with Nathan in front of the children, and if she really clashed with him now, what if he took his anger out on Alex? Or did something even worse—how would she handle that?
"Nathan, I've done my best to get along with you these past few days, but you? You've really disappointed me!"
Nathan's eyes flickered at Ava's words, but his voice remained calm. "Ava, I just want you to stay with me."
"Have I not stayed with you?" Ava retorted.
Nathan pursed his lips and took two steps forward, his expression complex. "I know you're upset about today, but Ava, believe me, I would never harm you."
