At first, he couldn't understand why his parents favored Charles so much when he was their biological child. Later, he realized it was because Charles' family had money.

 

After understanding this reason, Alex's heart grew cold toward his parents. He knew that in their eyes, money was more important than their so-called son. So, he studied hard, determined to escape that mercenary, loveless home.

 

The misfortune of his original family molded Alex into a person who was both indifferent and somewhat obsessive.

 

When Alex mentioned Charles, his mother felt a pang of guilt but maintained her stubborn attitude, still playing the role of a stern elder.

 

"I am your mother. Of course, I always think of you first!"

 

Alex let out a cold laugh. "Hearing that, one might think you actually care about me."
