Kept man?! Ava could hardly believe those words had come out of Nathan's mouth.
"Nathan, do you even realize what you're saying?"
Ava stared at the man in front of her in disbelief. Was one company bankruptcy enough to break him like this?
Nathan chuckled, lifting his head. He picked a strawberry from the fruit platter and playfully offered it to Ava.
"Don't get yourself worked up."
Ava turned away, her face flushed with anger, and stormed upstairs without another word. Once she left, the smile faded from Nathan's face.
Reflecting on Nathan's recent behavior, Ava felt her heart ache with frustration. How could bankruptcy change a person so drastically?
The next day, Ava resolved to push Nathan to find a job. Staying cooped up at home, no matter how much motivational talk she gave, wouldn't help him understand the real world.
