"You just thought that since the company suddenly went bankrupt and the once high-and-mighty Nathan fell from grace, as his ex-wife, you suddenly had a surge of compassion or couldn't bear to see it, so you came to take care of this down-and-out loser?" Nathan interrupted Ava, his smile not reaching his eyes.
Ex-wife? Surge of compassion? Down-and-out loser? Each word felt like a dagger to Ava, making her head spin and her anger rise.
