With a faint smile, Ava softly said, "You too."
Nathan left, and Ava made a point to see him out, knowing that once the divorce papers were signed, they would truly have no ties left. Nathan waved back at her, smiling. "No need to see me off. Get inside and stay safe. Don't open the door to strangers."
Turning on his heel, Nathan walked away with long strides. Despite his outward calm, inside he was anything but. His feelings ran deep, and leaving was painful. Now he was alone, with nothing but a bleak emptiness ahead of him.
