CHAPTER 3: On our Own.
We've been on the road for 3 days, of course, with stops as we need to restock supplies, and my parents were amazed by how much my sister can comsume baby formulas in a matter of days. The life on the road has its ups and downs like that one time when some thugs called last men tried to steal our vehicle, but dad protected us by threatening to shoot them with a gun. Well, a magnum pistol, to be exact. They tried to encourage my dad to join, saying that they were the last line of defense for humanity. Then, a day before that we found a store that is seemingly untouched and when we went inside the shelves were filled with cans of foods, hygene supplies, baby formulas, diapers and wine a lot of wine to which my parents happily took.
Good thing our vehicle is an RV that has a space large enough to fit us and our supplies.
Dad said that we were going to my mother's hometown, Hawkins Indiana.
Currently, my mom is telling me about stories of that town.
"When I was a young girl, I had a road across neighbor that's always so loud because the kid over there always invites his friends to play D&D."
"One day, one of the kids went missing. I think the kids name is Will? Probably, anyway many days later, that kid is pronounced dead found in near the falls. And that's where weird things started to happen. An organization popped up saying some Russian kid or something escaped, and there are also others who have started to go missing. Then some days passed, something happened at my school and the kid who is dead is alive." My mother said, reminiscing on her childhood years.
"What!? How is that even possible?" I shouted wide eye and in disbelief at what my mother told. I looked to my side and saw that even Hope was listening to the story. Not that she'll remember any of this.
"Yeah, I said that as well, and when he came back to school, some started calling him zombie boy. then it even got weirder, but let's skip all that. I'll tell you about it when you are a bit older and let me tell you about what happened during my adolescent year. Remember those D&D boys? A girl joined them her name is El or Jane dunno why they keep switching it. Rumor says that she's the Russian girl." My mother said as she casually shrugged.
"Wow... it seems like this town of yours is haunted." I said with my mouth open and eyes filled with fascination and curiosity. With Hope making some cooing sound beside me, she's probably agreeing to what I just said.
"Well yeah, then cracks started to form where they connected to one place and... I don't remember what happened after that." My mother said weirded out as to why she doesn't remember it.
"Oh! I know why!" I excitedly said.
"Hmm? Tell me." My mom said as she looked at me, waiting to hear what I have to say.
But before I said it, I picked up Hope and set her onto my lap as I embraced her, to which my mother smiled.
"Someone have a superpower that erased everyone's memory of it happening." I said with a smug smile, proud of what I said.
Both my parents chucked at that.
"Yeah, that's probably it." My mom smiled and just agreed to my words.
"Uh huh, you'll probably be a great storyteller if this Sick didn't appear." My dad said while focusing on the road.
I just hummed and nodded while I held Hope closer to me, to which she gurgled with laughter. Then, that feeling came again.
'Sigh* What is it this time?' I thought as I think of what gives me this uncomfortable feeling.
Minutes later , Hope and I fell asleep.
That's why I didn't notice my dad looking at my mothers pinky that's moving uncontrollably, with eyes filled with worry to which my mother returned with a soft but sad smile.

"Je... Wa... p...!!"
*Slam!
I jolted awake. I didn't have the time to ask what's going on, and I quickly surveyed my surroundings with still tightly protected by my slim limbs, Hope clinging to the hem of my shirt crying. The RV is swerving from left to right then...
We are tumbling, tumbling, tumbling, and then black.
I woke up disoriented and weak, I looked down at Hope, still holding tightly at my shirt though asleep. Our RV has turned upside-down with mom and dad nowhere to be found, and a disgusting smell made its way to my nose.
"Gasoline," I said, and then I quickly exited the RV through the ripped door. I put Hope down on the soft grass about 2 feet away from the RV, and I went back to scavenge supplies.
I quickly searched through the supplies cabinet and found 23 canned foods, 13 bottled water, 9 baby stuff, and a switch blade and some spare clothes for both of us.
Then, I found my other backpack that contained the camera, books, and the picture frame by my bedside table unscathed, so I grabbed it and
The rest are either destroyed or gone. I quickly gathered them and put them inside my backpack, and I went out the RV, as I approached Hope.
The RV went up to flames.
"Phew, barely made it." I wiped the sweat running down on my forehead.
"Good thing it didn't blew up like in those movies." I stated.
I picked up Hope and went East, 'Hawkins must be near.' I thought as I looked at Hope, who is still sleeping. "I guess it's just you and me now." I said jokingly to myself as to forget the whereabouts of my parents, not noticing the tears that made its way onto my eyes.
After fifteen minutes of walking, there is still no sign of civilization, just tress and tress... and I'm exhausted.
"Sigh* Let's rest here, Hope." I said as I tiredly put down two of my backpacks beside a tree, and I slumped down next to it. And it seems like Hope has woken up
'She seriously slept through it all.' I thought as my mind is in disbelief.
'Though now that I think about it. How can she have a strong grip that even while we're tumbling, she's still holding on to me.' I wondered. "Must have been one the traits of that part-Hybrid of yours, huh?" I teasingly said to her, not that it would work or anything, I just thought it fun.
Suddenly, Hope's stomach grumbled quietly.
( "Hungry baby noise ")
"Ok, ok, baby's hungry." I said as I reached for the backpack that contained Hope's necessities and grabbed her bottle with milk that my parents had readied for her. I gave her the bottle to which she enthusiastically drank it
After that, I made a campfire and a self-made shelter consisting of sticks as walls and roof with leafs, which lasted for an hour.
Grumble*
" Right, I need still to eat." I said as I grabbed and opened up a canned bean and ate.
The sun was already down as I finished the shelter, and I gave hope a blanket to protect her from the cold, although she looked fine. After that, I stretched and settled myself into a comfortable position and fell asleep.
