Inside was a rustic interior, with wooden tables and chairs, loud men drinking what seemed like alcoholic beverages and 2 barmaids running around serving.
" Take a seat everywhere you like fellas, one of us is with you in a sec. But if you're looking for the counter, that's around the corner in the back to your right."
As she continued serving the guests, we proceeded to said counter and saw an old woman bent over a book. As she sees us approaching, she closes the book and observes us.
"Hello and welcome in Maddy's tavern, what can I do for you two younglings? Foods inexpensive and the alcohol bearable, rooms upstairs. What can I get you?
"How much are the rooms and can we get breakfast here?", I ask, marveling at the simplicity of my surroundings.
"Single room for a night costs 1 copper 40 coals for just the bed, 2 copper if with breakfast and 3 with a hot bath. Room with 2 beds 50% more expensive, but you'll get a chair and bigger windows extra. After midnight is silence, otherwise I'll kick you out, regardless what you payed. I know young people are energetic, but this but a simple abode, so no fancy silencing magic or stuff like that. Keep it down alright?"
I nod, thinking of how long we'll be here and give her 27 coppers." We'll stay 6 days.""You get a week if you want, front or backwards facing room?"
"Front and I'll take the week." She hands me a key and adds: " 3. Floor 2. Door on the left. Have a nice stay" and opens up her book again. " Whats your name?" " I'm and she's Sarah.""Alright, noted, breakfast begins at 6."
We get out of the tavern and look for the guild, a passerby points us to the biggest building in town and tells us the shortest way.
Arriving there,we go inside and to the next free counter.
" Hi, I'm Vanessa, a receptionist, what can I do for you on this fine day?"
A little ginger haired girl greets us with a smile
about 12 years old in a plain pale blue dress.
" Tell us about this place, we're new and poor and need some money."
"Ok, got some information already or do you want a full explanation?"
"A full one, please."
" Ok, this is the guild, we're stationed around the continent with a branch in every settlement with more than 50 residents. We have Adventurers, Mercenaries and Info-brokers. Mages got they're own association and buildings, but those prideful asses only have branches in Big cities. Even though we need them more most of the time and are just barely scraping by. All personnel has ratings from white to red in accordance to the individual strength. Other lands have Ranks F to S or Stars, but generally it's the same everywhere and just important at borders. Adventurers are employees, with free health care but lesser rewards for completed Quests, that don't have to pay to accept Quests but have to defend the place they're currently staying at if said place gets attacked in any form. Mercenaries on the other hand are, most of the time, muscles for hire who do anything if the money is enough, but we do the official stuff. They get the full rewards for the Quests ,but have to pay a collateral before accepting them and healthcare isn't free, but they don't have to defend the place they're staying at. The info brokers are employees who collect Intel from different sources, confidential, of course, and sell for satisfactory gains. No fixed prices though, everyone fences for themselves."
" Ok, thanks, we'll become mercenaries. What's next?"
Vanessa took out some papers and handed them to us.
" Fill out these documents, then you get your license and identification papers."
After giving the documents to Sarah, she scribbled some things on them and handed them back to Vanessa.
"Alright",she said after a short while,"here's your papers and welcome to the guild. Do you want to check for Quests you can do now?"
"No, we'll look around and go to sleep for now. Goodbye."
