The next day, Kibe would be at the local police station. There his entire life would be put in on file and paper. Mr.Nakayama would be in his office with Mr.Miyuki walking back and forth.
"Can I just say this is the dumbest idea you've had yet?" He said, Mr.Nakayama stopped writting and put his pen down.
"Even more dumb than the time I caught that serial killer entirely based around the evidence; surrounding a sex store and 3 prostitutes?" Mr.Nakayama said
"...Ok maybe not that dumb, but still! We're letting our suspect run around the bureau like he's a kid during christmas. This could have unforseen consequences Nakayama. I don't want that for you." Mr.Miyuki said as he leaned over his desk.
"Its my call, sorry Miyuki. There's nothing else to say. How is he right now?" Mr.Nakayama asked as he kept writting on the paper. Mr.Miyuki put his hands on his waist as he sat down in one of Mr.Nakayama's chairs.
"Hes doing great. No criminal record. Funny. Passed the physicals, got really good scores on them to be honest. He has excellent memory, we took him in a room cluttered with over about 1,000 objects. Asked him to memorize them and then took him out." Mr.Miyuki said
"...And?" Mr.Nakayama asked
"Well we took him out for 2 hours, in that time he did some more testing. Had him read the laws, rules and regulations of Japan and neighboring countries twice and then had him sit in another room.
In that room we had set up 13 officers, had loud music playing and they all were doing something different and distracting. Afterwards we had him moved back to that same room.
Nakayama he named them all, every single one. Including the new 5 we had put there among them. Hes a genius." Mr.Miyuki said
"Impressive, so how were his written exams?" Mr.Nakayama asked he got to writting some more.
"...He didn't take them." Mr.Miyuki answered
"What?" Mr.Nakayama said
"Yea, he said he found them uhhh. Stupid or something. Used some big word. Doesn't matter, he didn't take them." Mr.Miyuki said
"Ok, so what did you do about that?" Mr.Nakayama asked
"Well we quizzed him, had a guy working on the PSIA tests come in. He knows all information about what it takes to work here, every corner of knowledge and every nugget of information. He asked Kibe multiple questions from each phase, Logic-based Reasoning, Figural Reasoning, Personality Assessment, Preferences and Interests, and Situational Judgment.
Each one having multiple phases that got harder, all the way up until level 10. Meaning terrorist level. The guy, Suo. Tested Kibe, and your not going to believe this but-"
"He passed." Mr.Nakayama said to Mr.Miyuki's suprise.
"How did you know that?" Mr.Miyuki asked
"Newton's law. Kid is a living computer, no, better. He is clearly beyond education. Whatever he is, we don't have a category for it yet." Mr.Nakayama said, Mr.Miyuki shrugged as he walked around the room.
"So, whats the plan now? You can't still be thinking this is all a good idea, right?" Mr.Miyuki asked
"Of course I do. Now give him what he needs. I don't intend to have him go through any real training. I have a feeling he's smart enough to run the PSIA itself, especially from the information we have so far now. His background?" Mr.Nakayama asked
"Everything adds up, kid came from France with his mother. She moved here with him after the unfortunate death of Mr.Nori. Apparently he use to work in the art department, museums and galleries. His father had quite the record.
He had a DUI and a history in his youth for theft. Changed his ways after around his mid 20s." Mr.Miyuki said
"Seems about right. Mrs.Mihara is the shinning parent. Golden mother. Head Psychoanalyzing specialist,
Mr.Tomomasa, head and founder of Swan River General Hospital. Is apparently her tutor and is the family psychiatrist." Mr.Nakayama said as he stopped writting and put his writtings in his desk. He then stood up and fixed his coat. He walked over to a bookshelf.
"Oh ye, the guys wanted me to let you know. The other guy joining our unit just landed. Should be here in like 20 or 30 minutes." Mr.Miyuki said, Mr.Nakayama then picked up a book called minds of the crime.
"Run me down with what this new guy is about. I heard he's out of state, or well countries." Mr.Nakayama said as he walked out of his office with Mr.Miyuki following him.
"Alright, ain't got all day Miyuki, talk to me." Mr.Nakayama said as he kept reading and flipping through the pages.
"Brandon Wright." Mr.Miyuki said
"Not Japanese, got it." Mr.Nakayama said
"Yup, hes American. He worked in Washington DC. Grew up there too. He was right in the middle of it all, when the crime rate over all of the United States grew out of control, a whopping 80% crime rate right now. He was a street kid most of his life, but started getting into the crime field after his mother was killed by a crooked cop; was involved with a underground gang and mob." Said Mr.Miyuki as they walked through the bureau.
"It says he has a IQ over 150, is that right?" Mr.Nakayama asked
"Its what his psychiatrist said." Mr.Miyuki said
"Said?" Mr.Nakayama asked as he looked at him.
"He killed her, she was apparently involved in one of his cases.
Hes known for that Nakayama, killing people. Guy has a body count more than some of these agents in here combined. More than the White rabbit." Mr.Miyuki
"Thats unsettling." Mr.Nakayama said as her and Mr.Miyuki walked out of the station and stood outside.
"No kidding, guy's a complete quack, a nutjob. His psych eval came back bad. Guy has serious insomnia, has no sense for right or wrong, completely void of empathy and a compulsive liar.
Nakayama the guy was diagnosed with APD, the worst kind anyone has seen in the US since Ted fucking bundy. He's sick Nakayama." Mr.Miyuki said
"Which is why the US FBI likely gave him to us. Did they tell you he was the reason the crim rate stayed at a steady rate; of 80% and no higher?" Mr.Nakayama asked to which Mr.Miyuki shook his head.
"Its because if there's one thing everyone is afraid, even serial killers and narcissistic Psychopaths. Its the unknown. Mr.Wright is unpredictable, he lives on the fine line of steady and destructive. Justice and Injustice, hes not too different from what I was beginning to show while I was on the cannibal case." Mr.Nakayama said
"Ok hes nothing like you." Mr.Miyuki said with a stern voice.
"Your right, but I could have been like him. I could have been." Mr.Nakayama said, thats when a police car drove over to them. Two officers came out with one of them going to the back of the car. Mr.Nakayama and Mr.Miyuki stood straight as they watched them get someone out of the car.
"Greetings." Said a voice behind them, Mr.Nakayama and Mr.Miyuki turned around to see Kibe standing there. He was wearing a suit with his hands in his pockets.
"You fill that very nice Kibe, great work on all the test. Though next time, I'd prefer if you tried to cooperate with the staff at police stations. We may be on a higher branch, but that doesn't mean we show our friends in blue any less disrespect. Hear me?" Mr.Nakayama said
"Getting use to receiving orders from Mr.Nakayama is going to be, a interesting chore." Kibe thought
"Of course." Kibe said. Thats when they'd all see him. The police would bring out a young man, looked no older than Kibe himself. He was white, but pale. He was rather skinny too. Like he hadn't eaten or drinken too much. He had rather long yet short black hair. His eyes, as Kibe watched this man come out of the vehicle in handcuffs; he would never forget those eyes. He wouldn't know it, but those eyes would be in his mind forever.
His eyes were dark, with a almost red glint. They almost looked to he red upon first glance. Kibe's emerald green eyes and this man's red ones would see each other; more than he'd ever want and thought. The eyes that belonged to-
"Brandon Wright." Mr.Nakayama said, as Brandon looked at him with a smile as he walked over with the two officers next to him. Brandon was wearing a black suit with a vest, blooded splats on his clothes and a stain of it on his face.
"Hey woah, what's going on here? Why is our agent in chains?" Mr.Miyuki asked with urgency as Kibe just watched from behind. The two officers looked at each other with concern as one of them then walked up to speak.
"Well sir, when he flew in-"
"That won't be necessary officer, I very much can speak for myself and my actions." Brandon said, getting everyone's attention. He looked at everyone, he seemed to have this look in his eyes, a look of joy yet no understanding.
If you had the right lenses to look at him through like Kibe and Nakayama, you could tell there was no sympathy in his eyes. He was a man that never felt regret or anguish.
"I flew in, landed at the airport. Its a deem day, didn't anyone else notice that? God I could go for snack right about now. Anyone else?" Brandon asked with a sort of deluded cheerful tone. Though his voice sounded very grim, like as if he was talking about something cryptic and yet mesmerizing. Thats when Kibe noticed that even though he was American, his Japanese wasn't bad at all. In fact he was fluent; couldn't even tell he use to speak anything else.
"Alright thats enough! Hiro, take this freak to a holding cell." Said the officer
"Now wait a damn minute! I asked you why he's in cuffs, now talk damnit! He's our agent." Mr.Miyuki shouted
"Alright, let's just calm down now. This is pointless arguing." Mr.Nakayama said
"You didn't see what we saw!" Shouted the officer, as the situation began to get more and more intense. Kibe's eyes then went from them to Brandon who was also staring at him. His expression was a smirk, he looked at Kibe with a look of curiosity.
"I saw her when I left the terminal." Brandon said, everyone looked at him again. Brandon out his finger to his cheek. A wide smile crossed his face like a snake.
"Earlier during my time there at the airport I saw a woman crying. She was in distress, her face was washed and eyes red from tears. She was talking to security.
She had lost her child." Brandon said, everyone looked at each other. Mr.Nakayama watched closely at Brandon's behavior and way he carried himself. Mr.Miyuki was a bit skeptical on this though, he kept his hands at his waist which Brandon picked up on. Brandon's eyes also looked over to Officer Hiro. Kibe noticed him stare at officer Hiro for a long while before continuing.
"To be fair, I was hungry and got myself a sandwich." Brandon said
"What does that have to do with-"
"Shhhhh, story time." Brandon said as he put his finger to his mouth. Mr.Miyuki leaned to Mr.Nakayama.
"This is a load of-"
"Quiet Miyuki." Mr.Nakayama whispered.
"I was hungry so I grabbed a sandwich, while I was there I saw a woman and child come into the store with me. The man looked fine, average woman . Black hair, dimple on her nose and a scar across his nose. Her teeth looked crooked a bit and ugly too. Could have used a good brush in all honesty.
The child, they were sad. Signs of distress and clearly too young to understand, but could understand one thing though. He wasn't with his mommy. I observed the area for any other possible accomplices that were around. The child was looking for eye contact with other adults. A common thing children will do when in an environment without their guardian or parent.
They'll look for someone who resembles their guardian. They soon made they're out. I know I should have been here sooner, but hey. I was curious." Brandon said as he then walked next to officer Hiro.
"Here you want to hold these, they're uncomfortable. I think you'd look good in them though bright eyes." Brandon said as he handed officer Hiro his hand, Hiro didn't even know what he was grabbing. It was subconscious. Brandon had placed a hand on his back, a sort of warm hand of reassurance. A sign there's no danger. A light tap too and officer Hiro didn't even know what was in his hands until Brandon had said otherwise.
"What the-"
"How'd he do that?!" Said the other officer confused, Mr.Miyuki looked in complete shock at the trick while Mr.Nakayama was impressed. His face showed intrigue and interest. Kibe however had seen the trick in motion and watched as Brandon walked over to the bench near them and sat down. He relaxed himself and saw with his legs crossed and straight.
"I followed her and the child. Her hand was around his tightly, not motherly, very firm. Like that kid was her property. Clear sign perhaps of a trafficker or sexually dominant person. I didn't get a chance to see if her nipples were perked. So I couldn't tell if she showed physical signs of interest in the child. We were at the parking lot. I hid behind a suv as the woman took the child next to a black car, windows were dark and tinted. Illegally tinted of course.
I witnessed as she began to lift the child's skirt. She was feeling her up." Brandon said, his voice hit the officers like thorns. They couldn't believe what he was saying. Kibe just watched, Brandon and him made occasional eye contact now which Mr.Nakayama kept a mental note of.
"I broke into the car I was by, found a tire iron. Didn't take me long after to beat that woman's skull in with it. Another pedestrian near me witnessed the action and called the police and now, we're here." Brandon said. Everyone looked at him baffled.
"Well, as you just heard. He murdered a woman, in cold blood." Said the officer with officer Hiro nodding with him.
"Hes right Nakayama, we can't just let him work with us after that. I mean first 30 minutes here and hes killed someone." Mr.Miyuki said
"Correction, Pedophiles aren't people." Brandon said
"You don't get to speak! You were brought here from the US to assist Japan in a time of need. To help with the onslaught of cases piling in. You agreed to that." Mr.Miyuki
"Did I? Must have forgotten." Brandon said
"You think you're being funny now?" Mr.Miyuki said with a stern tone as he walked over to Brandon who looked completely unfazed by what he had said.
"No I was being serious, I was abused as a child. Got hit in the head a lot. So my memory can be a bit fuzzy sometimes." Brandon said as he felt the front of his forehead. Mr.Miyuki almost stopped for a moment. Brandon's expression having changed from a wicked grin to a concerned look once he mentioned it.
"Is that true?" Mr.Miyuki asked, he then looked back to Mr.Nakayama who then looked at him.
"Is that right?" Mr.Miyuki asked Mr.Nakayama.
"Heheh, no, but your face sure is." Brandon chuckled. Mr.Miyuki turned to him with a look frustration and impatience.
"You think your funny huh?" Mr.Miyuki said
"Absolutely." Brandon said
"Well, let's see how well that attitude serves you in jail. First degree murder. Thats what you did." Mr.Miyuki said
"Can't murder a monster, only put them down." Brandon said, his face growing his old smile again.
" I'm not ignoring what you did,but the way you did it wasn't by the book that's illegal." Mr.Miyuki said
"That same book which has so many stitches and patches on it that its basically falling apart." Brandon said
"Maybe in the US." Mr.Miyuki said
"Oh it'll hit here too, why else would you call me." Brandon said
"A clear mistake." Mr.Miyuki said
"I'm starting to see why you're wife left you now. No one likes a straight arrow detective." Brandon said, Mr.Nakayama and Kibe looked immediately to Mr.Miyuki who was taken aback by Brandon's words. He backed up a bit, he took inhaled heavily and shakily. Like as if it was difficult to breath. Mr.Miyuki then walked over to Mr.Nakayama and pulled him to the side. Kibe watched them go. He kept forward as to not look at Brando who was smiling to himself.
"His observation skills are good, really good. He managed to deduce that from Mr.Miyuki just from his speaking and body language alone.
He also managed to tail that woman amoungest hundreds. Hes an obvious observer. He's also a master escape artist. Those cuffs were the same ones I wanted to get out of before, yet he did it with no effort at all.
He also shows clear signs of knowing the human psyche. The gentle yet almost unnoticeable touch to the back, with a tap for normality. It made it feel completely like a subconscious decision, the tap alerted the brain momentarily to another point of focus while the placement of the hand made it feel like a safe alert.
He knows psychology, he knows psychology very well. He doesn't show any signs of a professional background, infact the exact opposite. If I didn't know any better, from his appearance and nature alone. Hes likely just picked these things up from others." Kibe thought as he kept watching Mr.Miyuki talk to Mr.Nakayama. Brandon watched them too before his eyes looked Kibe. He looked at his straight and formal posture. Brandon then slapped his knees and stood up. He titled his head looking at Kibe. He was just staring at Kibe, eventually Kibe would look back for a moment and then fully when he saw Brandon staring at him.
"Can I help you?" Kibe asked
"...Nnnno, but if you don't look like a serial killer I don't know who does." Brandon said, Kibe just stared at him blankly before looking forward again.
"So whats your story? Highly educated kid gets accepted into the crime scene. Am I right?" Brandon asked with a smile
"No, not really." Kibe said with a cold tone.
"Hm, no change in tone. Hes good, can't tell if hes lying." Brandon said as he zipped in front of Kibe with a smile. Kibe's eyes slowly went to him.
"Brandon Wright, you?" Brandon asked as he extended his hand with a wide grin.
"You're an attention kind of guy aren't you?" Kibe said as he and Brandon kept eye contact. Brandon's hand was still extended.
"Did you know the human brain can only focus on so many things happening at once? It was discovered in the US that the limit, was 4." Brandon asked
"I assure you my senses are much greater than you think." Kibe replied
"Oh no doubt of it, I'm sure your brain is entirely capable of multitasking and keeping track of every detail. To the people walking behind, the birds flying in the sky, clouds slowly moving through the air, the woman who's waiting at the bustop across the street, the salon filled with frilly women who all somehow have they're nails filed too much.
Or the cars passing by and the conversation that Mr.Miyuki and Mr.Nakayama are having right behind us. My extended hand to you and my fingers wiggling infront of you." Brandon said, his face still curled into his sadistic and narcissistic smile. Kibe and him kept eye contact with each other for what felt like eternity. Both going through a form of psychological warfare.
"...You think I'm stupid?" Kibe asked
"Yes." Brandon said
"You just took my badge from my waist, you tried to overload my brain by pointing things in the area. You believed you could, distract me." Kibe said, Brandon's face fell a bit. Almost like he was disappointed, Kibe then put his hand out, Brandon looked at it and then gave Kibe his badge. Kibe grabbed it and put it back on in his jacket pocket.
"The name is Nori Kibe by the way." Kibe said.
"I can't believe your allowing this! Nakayama!" Mr.Miyuki said with aggravation.
"Enough, I've made my decision. Officers, there won't be an arrest on Brandon Wright." Mr.Nakayama said
"But he-"
"Was the child not saved? A crime stopped? If you have yes to answer to those questions, which judging by your silence I'll say yes. Then we're done here. Miyuki, Kibe and Brandon. With me." Mr.Nakayama said as he walked back intot the station. Kibe looked at Brandon a few moments longer before walking inside, Mr.Miyuki walked past Brandon, leaving him last to follow them. Later all four of them would be in Mr.Nakayama's office. Kibe was sitting down Mr.Miyuki was too while Brandon wondered around the room.
"Now, to brief you guys on what's happening." Mr.Nakayama said, Brandon picked up a book from one of Nakayama's shelves. He looked at it and saw it covered criminal science. He then began to flip through it.
"Well gentlemen, as you both well know and as you will know Brandon. The trickster was caught. However, our boys in criminal psychology and those working in Naicho have suspected that some more cases will stir up. Mainly due to the fallout that happened 9n the underground. Our job now, is to bust and crack these cases before they can turn bad.
Or end up like the wonderland case." Mr.Nakayama said
"Ah! I heard about that one, some people were wearing mask of his at the airport. Local magazines talk about him, yet he doesn't come out too much huh? Shy boy." Brandon said, Mr.Nakayama looked at him.
"Yea well, we're not covering that case. At the moment its cold and there aren't many leads." Mr.Nakayama said as he wrote something down.
"Sounds like you've given up really." Brandon said, both Kibe and Mr.Miyuki turned around and looked at him, Mr.Miyuki gave Mr.Nakayama the side eye from the comment. Mr.Nakayama didn't acknowledge it and just kept writting.
"Like I said, we're on other cases now. They'll be popping up like popcorn now that the competition is gone.
No one, covers the wonderland case. Nobody. Its off limits. Understand?" Mr.Nakayama said to which everyone nodded but Brandon who just clicked his tongue and gave a thumbs up.
"Alright, you all best get familiar with one another. Each of these files will have information about each of you. Best to know your team well.
I'll message you all when something comes up." Mr.Nakayama said as he got up and gestured for Mr.Miyuki to follow to which he got up and did. They left and closed the door behind them. Kibe just stay seated as he kept thinking to himself.
"Hey buster!" Brandon said as he jumped into the seat next to Kibe, he looked at Brandon before looking away again.
"You know I was thinking-"
"Hope you didn't hurt yourself." Kibe said
"Hehe, well, I was thinking about our earlier discussion. I was trying to think about what kind of guy you were. Since I can't quite get a read on if your lying or telling the truth. No pupil dilation, sweat and no physical signs to tell. Your perfect.
Like a machine." Brandon said, Kibe looked at him.
"I think I know what kind of guy you are, your the kind of guy who believes he's in control. Who's ontop of everyone and everything. Like me. No stress and problem free." Brandon said
"Your file says you suffer from insomnia." Kibe said
"Pffft, so I stay up late. Who doesn't?" Brandon said with a wide smile. Kibe looked away as he leaned on his arm. Brandon stared at him with a smile before he got his phone out.
"Oh hey, we should probably exchange phone numbers, to keep in touch yaknow. Don't worry, I won't butt dial you." Brandon said, Kibe looked at him before he reached in his pocket for his phone. However, when he did. He noticed it was gone. Kibe reached in his other pocket and it also wasn't there. Just his badge.
"My phone...its missing." Kibe said, he was legitimately suprised as he was always aware of his surroundings and who was with him.
"Oh no! Here use my phone, give it a call and I'll go ahead and find it." Brandon said as he got up and gave Kibe his phone. Kibe then typed in his number and gave it a call. He waited as it rang, suddenly Kibe could hear his ring tone going off right behind him. Kibe's face turned to brief suprise as he turned around slowly and saw Brandon standing at the door with his back turned. He was looking at something. Kibe just stared at him as his ring tone kept going off. Brandon's head then turned to him, a wide devilish smile came across his face as he looked at Kibe.
"You want to know something Kibe? The problem with machines is, they always get a malfunction." Brandon said as he walked to him and handed him his phone. Kibe just stared at Brandon, his face cold and expressionless. While Brandon's was filled with emotion and ecstacy.
"I like you, I have a feeling you and me are going to have a lot of fun." Brandon said as he walked out of the room. Kibe got up as he watched Brandon leave. At this moment thats when Kibe realized exactly what it was that Mr.Nakayama had done.
For the first time again, since meeting Mr.Nakayama. He once again had another great mind against him. Someone who he could see on eye level with.
Elsewhere at the time, at Swan River General Hospital. Mrs.Mihara was sitting in the main office room with a few other psychiatrist. Standing at the window was Mr.Tomomasa. He was drinking a cocktail as he looked down at most of the city and the police station from afar.
"It would seem that student 03 has failed to truly bring 01 out into the light. To reintroduce him to the fire that he lit for the good doctor all those years ago." Said Mr.Tomomasa as he took another drink. He then looked over and at a large portrait of two blonde twins, they both looked exactly the same and both were wearing uniforms. He stirred his drink for a moment.
"He's been doing amazingly well in this wild and unpredictable environment.
I do believe its time to spice a few things up. If we want for him to reach his full potential and rejoin us again.
We will have to make him yern for it. To beg for it.
So Nori Kibe, shall we? Let the games begin?
The ultimate chess game? With Japan as our board and it's people our pieces. Ohoh, its going to be quite a party." Chuckled Mr.Tomomasa as he walked away from the window and a new set of dangers began to prepare themselves, to attack Japan.
