Oh, it got worse. Not only were there external enemies to the city, but other forces fought for control as well. Even so, the internal strife within Opal's gang was arguably the worst, weakening them from the inside and leaving them vulnerable to others.
"And which war did you call me to help you with?" I asked. There were many more details to know, but there was no need to learn them all now if they were irrelevant.
"The internal one. The family I joined is not very good… My father beats my mother often to vent, my kid sister was pretty much jailed in the house with in-home tutoring and zero living skills. She's good-looking, so my father planned on giving her to a man who could be his successor."
Sounds like a normal tragic story overall.
