Chapter 3 - Carl and Teus

Simple, that was the best word to describe what I glimpsed. Small wooden houses and some people wearing clothes a little better than ours, nothing crazy. I think the idea of being in another world is viable.

I decided not to leave the alley for now, it's better to wait for MIA to finish. I don't want to go wandering around randomly without knowing anything. After one more look, I head deeper into the alley toward my brother who seemed to have already finished rummaging through the bag.

When I got close to him, he started talking: "There are some loaves, if we can call them loaves, they look like stones" he picked up a loaf and started hitting it against the wooden wall of the house next door while pointing and he said "oh, oh, oh" The resulting sound was not at all pleasant.

"There are also some strange fruits that I have never seen in my life, I assume they are fruits because they look like apples" he said intrigued as he held a red fruit at eye level and analyzed it.

"Are these things the children's?" I asked pointing at me and him.

"If it wasn't, now it is" he replied with a shrug with a smile on his face.

"We'd better wait for MIA to finish, let's sit somewhere without mud for now." I spoke while pointing to a dry corner. "If we're really in medieval times, having an infected wound here won't be cool."

After sitting for some time, the MIA analysis finally ended.

**M.I.A:** Memories analyzed.

"Start where we are MIA" I whispered.

**M.I.A:** According to the memories of the original owner of the body, you are in a village called Scalu, number of inhabitants and exact location in the world are unknown to the original owner of this body.

I let out a slight sigh, but I can't blame a kid for not knowing that kind of information. "MIA are we in the medieval era or in some other world?"

**M.I.A:** The probability of being in another world in an era similar to the medieval era on Earth is 87%. Please provide more information for a more accurate conclusion.

"What exactly happened here?" I asked, curious to know why these children were covered in bruises and thrown in an alley.

**M.I.A:** Some individuals from a higher social class attacked the original owner of this body until he was unconscious, the reasons are unknown.

"Nobles beating commoners I imagine. MIA tell me more about the original owner of this body."

**M.I.A:** The name of the original owner of this body is Carl, he is an orphan in the city of Scalu, his biological age is 12 years old. He lives in an orphanage run by an elderly woman who receives a subsidy from the Church of Light. Teus is Carl's considerate brother; They are not related by blood, but they consider each other brothers and live together in the orphanage.

"What were they doing to get beaten up?" This was still making me worry, if the original owner of this body was doing something like stealing for example, the beginning of my new life wouldn't start well.

**M.I.A:** According to the memories analyzed, Carl and Teus were fulfilling an order from the director of the orphanage to buy supplies for breakfast, they had the bad luck to have some young nobles passing by, they were attacked for no apparent reason .

Phew, less bad. So I don't have to worry about someone coming after me for whatever reason. Some nobles decided to have fun and this happened, I can't say if this is normal here, but if this world is like the ones in the stories I saw on the internet when I was a teenager. So I didn't need to worry.

I looked at my brother next to me, he was massaging his temples while whispering "I get it..... I get it". A few seconds later he opened his eyes and looked at me.

"It seems that my name is now Yours and yours?", he asked and I promptly responded. "Carl, wasn't there that in that boy's memories? He should have known" my brother just looked at me for two whole seconds and said "It's true".

Again, the delay in my brother's thoughts was unique. After thinking a bit, I think we should go back to the orphanage to get more information, I asked MIA a few more things but there was nothing relevant in the memories of the original owner of this body.

I looked at my brother and spoke pointing to the entrance of the alley. "Come on, we need to get out of here, eat something, treat these bruises and get some information." He stood up and held out his hand to help me as he said "it's true, I'll just follow you".

After getting up I started walking the path to the orphanage, I asked MIA for some instructions since she had access to the memories of the original owner of this body and I didn't. After leaving the alley we head to the right.

The typical setting of medieval fantasy stories was bringing me a strange nostalgia, a few years in the mafia took away a lot of my sensitivity. But somehow, this scenery of simple wooden houses and dirt streets spoke to me. Simplicity mixed with the idea of maybe being able to use magic one day.

I think there is an inner child in even the most perverse people after all. Not that on earth I was anything extraordinary, but I had my share of bad things. After all, I was the leader of a mafia, or whatever they called me. The father of all.

"Shit" a restrained scream from my brother broke me out of my thoughts.

"Damn animals, why do they shit everywhere?" he exclaimed indignantly as he shook his human shit-smeared foot.

I couldn't help but smile at this scene "hahaha if we're in the middle ages, you should already imagine that there would be shit everywhere" the smile on my face didn't disappear at any point.

My brother looked at me with closed eyes saying, "You better wipe that smile off your face if you don't want a punch in the mouth from me" for a moment the atmosphere became tense.
