"Wow, what?! I'm the descendant of Wh-" Before I finished my sentence, I woke up from my bed with a voice shouting my name. "NOLAN! NOLAN! Wakie Wakie, it's time to wake up, dear, finish your breakfast, and get ready to train," said the voice.
"Oh, it was my mother," I said in my head, sighing. "Well, I can't believe I didn't get to finish my dream; I was being the Hero of the World and being called 'Night H-'" before I finished. My mother shouted my name, so I had to quickly jump out of bed and start rushing downstairs to have my breakfast. After that, I put on my uniform and rushed outside, forgetting the fact that it's Sunday today.
My mother was staring at me in disappointment when she saw me in my uniform. But all she did was laugh and tell me, "Nolan, you're so clumsy, but you need to be serious when it comes to training.". I nodded and changed back into my usual outfit. After that, me and my mother trained, focusing on my mana manipulation since I'm going to have to cast lots of spells to defeat Kyle.
We trained by casting spells instantaneously, doing physical exercises and meditating until I was out of energy but there was a quote my mother always told me: "The strong needs to protect the weak, The weak need to be strong so they can protect others,"
There's one thing my mother always tell me "Nolan, I see myself in you but stronger. Dear grow up to be the man that will protect us. Follow the light and forget about the chains that's bringing you down,"
Giving up was not in my dictionary, I endured through all those exercises and finally I got stronger and more flexible. "If I can't achieve strong mana spells, then I'll get physically stronger," I thought to myself.
My father also helped me out by teaching me some advanced spells that I'd use against Kyle. Then the days go on, it was fast.
Then that day came pretty fast. As I stepped into school, I could sense Kyle's Mana overflowing the school, it was terrifying. It could horrify everyone but not for me since I trained with my parents almost everyday and my mother release mana far more horrifying than it. I think 100 folds horrifying. But My mother told me to get used to it since I have to fight people that would be stronger than her.
I walked to my class and found Kyle smirking thinking that he'd defeat me. But that's a possibility. He started talking as he laughs "Ha! everyone, look Nolan is here. More like No hands, I'd beat you with no hands," he started laughing after that he shouted "COME AT ME!". He mocked me and tried to humiliate me.
But I kept my calm and told Kyle to have a duel in the arena. He insisted and kept telling me to strike him first, but the more I reject that the more he gets furious.
But he kept his calm and just nodded after knowing that it wouldn't work to insist. After school, I came to the arena and saw Kyle standing there smirking. He then shouted "SPIRIT OF THE FIRE GUIDE ME WITH YOUR POWER, FIRE PHOENIX!". A large phoenix appeared on top of him as fire starts to overwhelm around us. The fire phoenix started blasting fire everywhere uncontrollably.
I was so perplexed, I haven't even said anything to annoy him or to humiliated him. He just randomly striked me acting like I just killed his parents.
Such view was so horrifying but not for me, I trained with my mother, she showed me stronger spells and stuffs that is far more terrifying than that.
All I could do was dodge around and think of what to do, and I had an idea "Wait, he's avoiding fire. He may have the fire traits but he can't fully manipulate fire. Meaning that he'd be damaged by his own spells," I thought.
Kyle smirked and kept laughing like a maniac. Crowds were starting to form, looking at what had happened in the arena. But I noticed that kyle was trying to avoid going near the fire when the wind makes the fire bigger.
I realized Kyle only know long range spells such as Fire Blast, Fire Ball, Phoenix and etc. So I started running towards him but Kyle tried to block me using fire wall.
But it didn't stop me, I ran and ran. Eventually Kyle was just 10 steps ahead of me, I thought I had won but. Kyle smirked and whispered "You're done,"
I was confused and when I looked, a fire ball hit me straight and I fainted out. Before I did I thought to myself "Oh, I'm not the main character to win the battle with a spirit user,"
When I woke up, I was on a bed and my parents were talking with a doctor about my conditions.
When I check my body, it was covered in bandages. And a doctor walked and sat down beside me. He said "Kid, you got 3rd degree burn. I can't belive you accepted a challenge from someone with a flame spirit. But the surprising thing is, you fainted out standing. You wasn't giving up and kept approaching even when you were unconscious,"
I was surprised when I heard I still kept approaching Kyle even when I fainted out. The doctor also mentioned, Kyle thought I was still conscious so he kept casting fire ball at me and gave me 3rd degree burn. But luckily with today's advanced spell, it's easy to heal them.
I was dismissed as I had no major damages to my body. But there was a major damage to my mentality. Well I guess I'm done with my reputations. I'm just a side character, I shouldn't have done that in the first place.
I walked home as I was deep in thoughts. When I stepped into the house, my parents came running at me asking if I'm okay. I nodded and they said "Son, it's okay to lose. Sometimes we were meant to lose so we could achieve greater powers and strength. That's the thing your grandfather always used to tell me when I was under his command,"
I smiled but at the bottom of my heart, I know that I have been humiliated by Kyle. I guess it's how it goes for every side character. This is only the start of my story.
"After all that incidents, I think a good night sleep will be okay" I thought sighing and went to bed.
When I opened my eyes again I saw flashing lights. When the flashing light disappeared, I saw that I was in a plain filled with flowers and trees. I'd hear the birds chirping. But out of all that I saw a mysterious man covered in white armor looking at the flowers. Then he looked at me and said "Nolan, I think it's time"
