Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 ANBU's Captain Assessment

After returning home, Logan did some simple physical exercises before washing up and getting ready for bed. As he lay in bed, Logan began to think about the ANBU's captain assessment two days later.

This assessment, as the name suggests, would determine who would be promoted to the position of ANBU's captain, leading a varying number of ANBU's members. Typically, a team consisted of three members, with the Captain leading two others.

The ANBU operated in the shadows, so the so-called assessments will naturally not be made public or be as grandiose as Konoha's Year 60's Chunin Exams in the original work. Everything would be kept internal.

The assessment content was surprisingly simple, to the point that Logan was dumbfounded. There were no elaborate trials or combat tests, there is only a written exam... and then the assessment was based on scoring by examiners from within the ANBU itself.

When he first learned this, Logan couldn't help but complained in his heart, 'Hey, this is a major matter related to the safety of Konoha! Could they be any more careless!'

But upon further thought, it was understandable. Those who made it onto the candidate list were all elites with sufficient qualifications and convincing strengths. Their past mission records had already demonstrated their characteristics and levels of skill, and everyone was familiar with each other, so testing combat prowess wasn't really necessary.

However, there was one point that Logan couldn't help but want to complain about, that is, there are five people taking part in the assessment this time, and yet there were also five Captain's positions available...

Well, it seemed like in organizations like the ANBU, internal decisions about who to promote were made regardless of assessments. With their mission records in place, no one would say anything. And this so-called assessment was just going through the motions.

"Sigh…" Logan sighed helplessly. It seemed that as long as he didn't do anything remarkable, he would basically be appointed as a Captain. Originally, this should have been something to be happy about, as he was doing well and not embarrassing himself as a transmigrator.

However, Logan was more concerned about doing his own thing. And after becoming a Captain, he would definitely be constrained in some ways. That is the main reason for Logan's worries.

Although the Railgun hadn't been perfected yet, Logan wanted it to be his trump card. Increasing his Lightning Attribute Chakra control was another aspect.

There is a lot of darkness in Konoha. Although he has lived in Konoha for many years and has feelings for Konoha, Logan wasn't so loyal that he would sacrifice himself for it. In order to prevent himself from being powerless in the face of potential political turbulence in the future, Logan needs to make some preparations.

'But I heard that after becoming a Captain, you will have higher authority to read the Scroll of Seals. By then, I can look up information on Space-Time...' Logan thought to himself.

Two days later, Logan woke up early according to his good sleep schedule. Since the notice specifically mentioned that there would be no combat tests, Logan didn't wear any equipment. He leisurely ate breakfast and then put on a simple ninja vest before heading to the ANBU's Headquarters.

After arriving, Logan found that he was actually the last one to arrive. The other four ANBU's members had solemn expressions and were already prepared. As soon as Logan entered, all four sets of eyes shot towards him, causing the corners of Logan's mouth to twitch.

'Do you have to be so serious? It's not like we're charging into battle?' Logan complained in his heart. He didn't really care about the honor of being promoted to an ANBU's Captain, but it seemed that the others didn't see it that way.

"Alright, Raiden Hattori has arrived. We still have ten minutes until the exam starts. But now that everyone's here, let's begin directly." An old ANBU's member, who is about the same age as Aida, spoke up. After nodding to the other examiners, he announced the start of the exam in a straightforward manner.

Each of the five participants was taken into a separate room by an examiner. Logan was no exception. Upon entering the room, he saw a set of desks and chairs, as well as pens and exam papers.

"..."

Logan didn't know what to feel, so he sat down and picked up the pen. The exam began in earnest for him and his fellow participants.

Well, it's the ANBU's Captain assessment.

Although Logan hadn't formally attended the Ninja Academy, his theoretical knowledge was definitely not lacking. With years of combat experience, he even had extraordinary insights. In addition, he is a high school student, so answering questions like 'Our team consists of X members, encountering X Ninja from X village in XX environment...' or 'Receiving a mission to disrupt the enemy's supply line...' posed no difficulty for him. Logan only felt a bit sore from writing by hand, but otherwise, there was no challenge.

An hour later, Logan handed in the paper on time. The examiner, who had been observing him from the side, nodded frequently throughout the exam. Logan's high school knowledge are still useful here.

Stretching lazily, Logan prepared to leave after coasting through the assessment. He didn't see Itachi's name on the list this time. It was probably due to his age. Itachi had also grown rapidly in the past six months, so his mission record and strength were unquestionable.

"Raiden Hattori, wait a moment." Just as Logan was about to get up and leave, one of the examiners called out to him.

"Is there something else?" Logan asked doubtfully.

"There will be a final test later, please wait a moment." The examiner said with a somewhat strange expression. It seemed like he had something to say but hesitated, and in the end, he just smiled. Logan had more doubts in his heart upon seeing this, but he had no choice but to sit down.

'There's still a test? What are they testing for? The notice didn't mention this...' Logan thought to himself.

The examiner left with the exam paper, and five minutes later, two unfamiliar people entered.

What Logan didn't know was that this sudden additional procedure was not happening in the other four rooms.

Outside the room, as the four ANBU candidates were sent off one by one, the makeshift examiners gathered together and looked towards the only room that hadn't opened yet.

"Is this really necessary?" Someone frowned.

"There is no need for a psychological test for Hattori. We have all seen his behavior over the years. I don't know how the superiors agreed to it." The old ANBU's member, who had announced the start of the exam at the beginning, said with a snort, sounding dissatisfied.

Someone sighed, "There is no choice. It's Danzo's request, and his reasons are also valid. Hattori is not a native of Konoha Village..."

Logan had good relationships within the ANBU, and several examiners were discussing the matter with obvious displeasure, clearly in support of him. They didn't care about Logan's supposed background, as in their eyes, it was not a problem.

But it was a pity that even though Root and them are both nominally belonging to the same ANBU, but because of Danzo's different ideology and operating styles, there wasn't much harmony between them, and Root's image had always been dominant.

"Don't worry, Hattori will be fine."

Everyone agreed, and the discussion quieted down. This was also the reason why the ANBU agreed to Danzo's request to test Logan. Since it didn't really matter, they'd just let Danzo do whatever he wanted.
