My eyes caught his hand around Lisa's throat, her face flushed with what I recognized as desire. Suddenly a scary thought crossed my mind. Was that the face I made earlier?
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt—" The words tangled in my mouth, useless as cobwebs. "I... I'll come back later," I managed, already backing away.
Alex's gaze snapped to mine, blue fire that scorched my insides. "Stay."
It was like he was giving an order to his pet labrador. He released Lisa with a casual flick of his wrist, like discarding a used tissue.
She stumbled back, massaging angry red marks blooming on her pale neck. The hatred when she looked at me could've curdled milk. I'd wanted to let her know that I wasn't a competition and vying for Alex's attention was the last thing I wanted to do.
