Chapter 56 - Win with idiocy

Vlad saw the group remained at the gates, while the angel on the wall lowered their weapon the next moment.

'It seems that they want us to come to them.'

A sharp light appeared in Vlad's eyes as he calculated his next step. Even though the leader of this military operation was supposed to be Lieutenant Mitchel, everyone was focusing on him to see what his next move would be.

Eventually, a flash of wisdom, coldness, and killing intent appeared in Vlad's eyes as he raised his right hand and clenched his fists. Immediately, six figures moved toward him, and it did not take long for his inner circle to stand by his side. It was only then that Vlad carried on, along with the civilians, Lieutenant Mitchel, and the soldiers.

The group advanced until they were less than one hundred meters from the wall. From that point, only Vlad, his group, and Lieutenant Mitchel carried on, as the civilians and the rest of the soldiers remained behind.

General Anglius's eyes narrowed as he saw Vlad's group. He was not surprised to see the young man had formed an inner circle, and while he was not exactly happy to see four of his soldiers had sided with him, seeing so many people brought back filled him with happiness and washed away any discontent.

Still, General Anglius's eyes sharpened the next second as he was in a very delicate situation and needed to keep a clear head, as the next steps they would take could change the entire state of the Silver Wind Military Base.

Vlad, Lieutenant Mitchel, and the rest of the group soon appeared in front of General Anglius and the rest of the small group.

"You must be Vlad Xaos, a student of Codia University. I have heard a lot about you. Some of your college friends arrived at General Omar's base and told us all about your great prowess against the demons and your efforts afterward in ensuring their safety after that battle. I can only say that is nothing but the act of a hero. I am sure we could have a productive relationship with such a powerful battlefield expert as you, leading soldiers against the armies of the Abyss."

Before Vlad could even present himself or utter a single word, the young angel woman spoke all those words. Her voice was as charming as her face, and there was a tone so delicate that people could lose themselves in it.

Anyone who heard those words would think that the angelic woman had nothing but goodwill toward Vlad, and it seemed as if she wanted to establish a friendship with a powerful warrior. However, there were some like General Anglius who could feel there was a hidden message in those words, but it was something only Vlad would be able to figure out entirely.

Vlad remained silent, but his eyes narrowed as he stared at the woman. Seeing her felt like gazing at a poisonous snake that could bury her fangs in his neck at any time. It took a moment, but he was able to decipher everything she truly wanted to express in those few words.

The woman already told him she knew about Vlad's feats at Codia University and against the Abyssal Mantis. It seemed that she did not care about the death of Asmael, but that did not mean she had all good intentions.

The fact about his heroic role in securing the civilians of the college after the death of the Abyssal Mantis was a hint to the fact he just ran away from there and left them to their luck. Vlad did not feel any shame in that, as he saved them, and was not going to leave his fate in their hands with such a weakened condition.

However, that could be easily used to slander him as someone who did not care about normal people. A pretty face and a beautiful voice would not have a problem twisting the minds of normal people, especially if they saw her as some sort of biblical figure.

After that subtle threat, the woman stated he could have a good future, as long as he understood that his role would be on the battlefield, under angelic guidance.

Vlad stared at the woman as he calculated his next step. If he were to clash ideologies with her, it would be an uphill battle, and the chances of his success were not very good. While his actions in Good Side Town gained a lot of respect and admiration, people's hearts are capricious and can change easily.

Although not afraid of a clash of words, that could lead to a very long discussion, and nothing ensured his victory.

'If you can't win with wisdom, win with idiocy.'

Vlad frowned, and an expression of anger and annoyance appeared on his face, only making the young angelic woman's smile grow wider as she was sure her wisdom and scheme managed to break the young man.

"Since when does a woman have the right to speak in the presence of men without being given permission?"

Those words froze the smile on the angelic woman's face as she was honestly out of words. She was prepared to face any intelligent response and overcome it with her schemes, but the answer she obtained was so simple and overbearing that it honestly left her speechless.

She was not the only one taken aback, as all the people present were also surprised. Constantine Country was very advanced, and the notion of man and woman equality was very well implanted in society, so those words came as a surprise.

The ones most bothered by them were obviously Mirena and Amara, after all, there was no way the two women would take that lightly.

Vlad could feel the anger in the woman, but he did not back down and began to look at the angelic woman with lascivious eyes before a perverted smile appeared on his face.

"You have a pretty face and a good body. I guess I can forgive you for your transgression. What do you say if you come to my place at night, so we can discuss the partnership you were talking about."

Just as Vlad finished those words, his eyes widened as a sword appeared in his hand, which he used to block a massive bastard sword coming at him like a train.
