General Anglius' gaze was sharp as the horde of monsters swiftly approached the walls, climbing like mindless drones intent only on slaughter.
The oil that the soldiers spread was effective, but the monster used its sharp claws to escalate; with every step it took closer to the humans, more brutality and hunger could be seen in its eyes.
"Attack!"
With that command, the soldiers began to jab with their spears, striving to eliminate as many demons as possible and halt their ascent. Their coordinated efforts were effective, showcasing remarkable prowess for such a young group with limited military experience. Their resilience through weeks of relentless assaults had honed their strength.
Although many perished in the first waves of monsters that attacked the fortress, the ones who survived became fearless warriors.
General Anglius felt immense pride for his troops. However, despite their valiant efforts in dispatching dozens of monsters, more creatures relentlessly clambered over the walls, their eyes filled with a thirst for blood.
A sense of urgency flashed in General Anglius' eyes as a demon's head crested the wall. He unleashed his energy, enveloping his machete and himself in a radiant Force, and delivered a mighty strike full of power and speed.
Despite being in his mid-forties, his advancement to Level 2 Warrior endowed him with exceptional combat prowess, allowing him to sever the approaching demon in two with a single strike. Unfortunately, two more followed suit, approaching the top of the wall. Although he managed to dispatch one, the other breached the wall's summit, marking the start of a melee battle.
Across the wall, the situation grew increasingly dire as more monsters topped the barrier. Soldiers did their utmost, with Warriors wielding their Force and machetes at the front lines and Mages providing support from a distance with spikes and spears.
Mages did not usually fight with melee weapons, but at such a close distance, they lacked the skill to avoid collateral damage with their spells.
General Anglius fought with the ferocity of a berserker yet maintained precise control. Despite his skillful efforts, the number of demons breaching the wall continued to rise. Injuries began to afflict the soldiers, signaling an impending crisis.
"Dammit!"
Despite his extensive experience and indomitable will forged on the battlefield, frustration overcame General Casidius as he took down another demon.
"BOOOOOOMMMMMMM!"
Just as the soldiers on the walls reached their breaking point, an incredible event unfolded. A massive arc of lightning struck the wall from the distance, incinerating the demons upon it.
General Anglius was astounded by the attack's power, far surpassing the spells his Mages could unleash. His astonishment only grew as a small yet exceedingly agile creature darted through the horde, leaping from demon to demon before ascending to the wall's summit.
"A cat?"
This thought echoed among General Anglius and the soldiers as they observed a small yellow cat with a patch of white fur and black eyes arriving at the wall's crest.
"Judgment lightning chains!"
The cat's focus was on the nearest demons, not the soldiers. Opening its mouth, a bolt of white lightning emerged, annihilating a demon bear instantly. The lightning then leaped to adjacent demons, spreading like a web and decimating all atop the wall.
General Anglius and his soldiers were struck with awe. The cat had not only repelled the climbing demons but also eradicated those that had reached the summit with a singular spell.
Mage soldiers gazed at the cat in reverence, recognizing its divine prowess in spellcasting and agility. The cat's face was exhausted after casting such potent spells, understandable given the energy consumed by powerful magic.
"Don't lose focus! Return to the walls and halt their climb. Utilize the time our friend has granted us!"
Spurred by General Anglius' command, the soldiers snapped out of their trance, nodding as they resumed positions at the wall's edge, readying their weapons to confront the remaining horde. With over a hundred monsters still posing a threat and the soldiers fatigued and wounded, vigilance was paramount.
General Anglius nodded in approval as he observed the soldiers' readiness, then turned to the small yellow cat with a smile of gratitude.
"Thank you, friend. You've been a great help. Are you alright?"
"Just a bit drained from the magic use, but I'll recover," the cat replied with a smile as a wave of Origin Force surged into its body from the vanquished demons. Glancing at the soldiers bracing for another assault, the cat shook its head gently.
"Relax. Boss will handle the remaining demons."
General Anglius, though finding it peculiar to converse with a cat, pushed aside his bemusement upon hearing the mention of a 'Boss.'
"Boss?"
"¡Boom!"
The sudden sound signaled the arrival of someone—or something—potentially game-changing in their defense against the demonic onslaught.
