In this world, devils and demons are of the same race called fiends, the inhabitants of hell. They are the jailers of the sinners, former fallen angels that soaked in the wretched miasma of hell and strayed to the path of evil through the eons. Generally speaking, the ones called devils are of a higher rank than demons, but demons generally are more brutish than devils and choose to fight rather than talk. Devils are known for their sweet words and trickery.
To all adventurers of the world, if it tried to speak with you, it's a devil. If it lunged to bite without a single world, it's a demon. Kill both, as they never dare step into the mortal world with good intent.
The ranks of hell are divided into nine realms and each realm is divided into ten stages of power. Newly born devils are referred to as MIDEN devils until their powers start showing up which could vary from several seconds to decades of waiting depending on the linguae.
First realm of hell: ENA
Lesser fiend: Human-level fiends like imps. They can fly and hurl balls of flame, but they can still be killed with a single sword strike. They can be both devils and demons based on their intelligence. They are popular among witches as familiars for their versatility and talent for being pets.
Middle fiend: The power gap is already huge between them and the rank below. They are like wild beasts, most of the time matching the likes of lions, bears, and tigers in power. In this rank, you can find fiends like spiked devils, which are human-shaped porcupines that can shoot their needles or use them as armor.
Upper fiend: Those who reach a level of power that humans can only imagine. In terms of raw power, they can be compared to the likes of elephants, hippos, and rhinos. The large, ten-foot-tall stone demon is one of them, having skin as hard as stone and strength to match. Tentacle demons are also in this rank, boasting several powerful tentacles that can shoot acid and bind their prey, all while the real body hides in stone. Elfen demons are also a part of this rank.
