Chapter 25 - The Fall Of The Hero

Alice lifted a finger, [Bugendai Sozo] She started conjuring fire, lightning, cold, earth, necrotic, life, time, and space magic, all the known elements and combined them to create the last element, a chaos orb just like the one she started the fight with.

Gio dodged the blast as he had already seen it before. "You're one annoying human." He swung his claws, sending a wave of fire slashes at her.

Alice dodged the slashes and kicked him in the face, sending him flying to the ceiling. The fight kept on for several minutes as they clashed, reaching a stalemate where neither was able to overpower the other's regeneration.

As time passed, Gio's regeneration was the one to start failing first. Albeit Alice's attack didn't do as much damage to him as he did to her, his regeneration was far slower than hers, and had begun feeling the weight of the damage. His arms felt heavier and his wings grew more sluggish, he could feel it, Alice was winning this war of attrition.

Gio was counting on the pain caused by his attacks to chip at Alice's spirit, but she wasn't bothered by the pain and walked right through his attacks with a smile. All thanks to the painless buff she got. She had counted every move and he was the one starting to lose.

Gio panted as Alice approached him, about to finish with one last chaos blast. "It's over, Devil." You can't win against a hero, it's just impossible for evil to win. The only exception to that rule was Asura, for some reason, he always won, kicking us back home with nothing but shame and disappointment. There is no way you'd be on his level, and no one else shall reach that.

Gio giggled, putting his hands together, "You're really a problem." He then bit his thumbs and then slammed his palms on the ground with a grin.

From the ground he pulled two more devils, far stronger than any demon on the layers but still weaker than him. Spear devils were red-skinned humanoid-looking devils with one horn on the forehead and a long leathery black tail and wings.

"Three to one?" Alice looked at them with a passive face, she could remember the day they ganged on Asura. His words came to her mind. This is how he must've felt, "This is unfair, to you." She repeated his words, jumping forward and punching Gio in the face as the two devils stabbed her in her sides.

The two devils tried to pull their spears but found them stuck in Alice's flesh. As they gasped, she punched them left and right. In that short moment, Gio had flown back and kicked her in the face. She took the hit and grabbed him by the knee, snapping it backward.

The other two devils swung their claws at her neck, but she ducked down and pulled their spears from her body, healing right up, and turned toward one of them with a punch in the face. The moment he recoiled, she hit him with a left hook, followed by a right hook, and kept spamming until she ripped his head off.

Gio lunged at her, coming with a spear thrust but she hit him with a backkick to the face returning the favor and sending him flying back.

The other devil tried to grab her, but she touched his chest with a finger. "Farwell." A massive chaos blast exploded, erasing the devil out of existence and lifting a storm of dust into the air.

Gio stood, gasping for air, "Who are you, monster!" As he shouted, he could see Alice's foot flying toward his face with a kick. She once again caved his nose into his brain and sent him flying to the wall, before he could crash, she followed him with several more kicks, finally pinning his head to the wall with a kick.

"The strongest human unarmed strike isn't a punch, it's a kick." She grabbed him by the neck and threw him toward the middle of the room as what she would do could cause the walls to collapse.

The moment Gio landed in the middle of the room, she dropped on his chest with a stomp and then lifted her foot up as a ball of chaos formed beneath it. "It's over." She stomped again, crushed the chaos ball into the devil's chest, and caused a massive explosion, killing him.

With burned ground beneath her feet, she started walking toward the door, exhausted; The buffs were already running out. [Disguise] skill got.

She giggled. How would I explain this to Liam?

From the dust a tall and muscular grey devil emerged, he silently lifted his fist and smacked Alice on the back of the head, knocking her out. "What an interesting specimen. I shall take you to my lab in the hells."

This dungeon is separated into two paths. Usually, there will be a single boss that rules everything, this is what Alice thought and was taught. But what she didn't know is that each path has its own boss, and they combine to create the boss of the entire dungeon. Liam knew that and went to slay the boss of path A, but due to the sheer number of demons on his way, he didn't make it in time before this monster came down to path B.

Even if Gio had died, this devil ate his soul and they had effectively combined into a stronger devil. The force that rules this entire dungeon with a fist of steel.

Alice found herself under-leveled and un-buffed, exhaustion had started to take hold and her body finally gave up, losing consciousness before she could see what hit her from the back.

The devil extended his hand, about to lift Alice and go back to hell with her when her body suddenly disappeared with a puff of dust. He paused for a second, lifting his head and looking forward, seeing a young man carrying her and walking toward the wall.

"A human?" The devil asked, "No, your soul is blacker than mine. As if I'm staring into the abyss itself."

Liam ignored the devil's words and gently laid Alice to rest beside the wall, fixing her hair. "I'll deal with him quickly. Rest here for a while, okay?" He patted her head with a smile.

"I asked what you are." The devil lifted his arm, pointing at Liam's back.

The moment Liam glared back at him with glowing red eyes. The devil could feel a shiver running down his spine. Those weren't the eyes of a human looking at a devil, or those of one looking at his enemies; it was the glare of a predator staring at his prey.
