Chapter 5 - Little Trouble

"Why did she faint again?"

The doctor looked at the young man who brought her to the hospital and replied, "Stand back, Yi Qin. I'll check up on her. She hurt her head so badly. Do you think she'd be fine so soon?"

"But I think she fainted because of shock," replied Yi Qin very thoughtfully. "But what is shocking around here? I look so handsome. I can't be the reason for her shock. It must be your scary face, Uncle Zhou."

"If you don't talk for a minute, no one will take you for a mute!"

"Oh," responded Yi Qin and Dr. Zhou almost felt like he was seeing Liu Xinyu's earlier expression when she responded the same way. He shook away this thought and focused on the patient in front of him.

Liu Xinyu wasn't completely unconscious, she could vaguely hear the voices around her but she couldn't just wake up. Or it was better to say that she didn't wish to wake up and face the absurd situation in front of her.

Coming from a fast-paced digital age, there was no way Liu Xinyu didn't have any idea about the situation she was in. The times when dramas, movies, and novels all seemed to contain the themes of transmigration and rebirth, how could she be clueless? Even if she didn't indulge in such entertainment that did not mean she didn't have anyone around her who consumed these things.

Now that she knew she was in 1998, the next question was... What happened to the Liu Xinyu of 2023? Was she dead in her time? Wait! What about the body she was in right now? Don't tell her that she actually possessed a dead person's body, how creepy!

Her eyes shot open once she thought that she was in the body of a dead person. But then she held up her hands to look at them and smiled. She still had a scar on the index finger of her left hand. She also had the mole between her fingers. Liu Xinyu breathed a sigh of relief when she realized that she was in her own body.

As long as she didn't possess a dead body, she could face anything.

"Uncle Zhou, do you think something is wrong with her?" asked Yi Qin in a small voice to the doctor. "Why does she keep scowling and then smiling all by herself? It's a little scary."

"Look at your courage!" scoffed Dr. Zhou and then turned to Liu Xinyu, "Girl, are you feeling okay? Does it hurt anywhere?"

Liu Xinyu faced the doctor but didn't respond immediately. She seemed to be thinking something deeply right now and that's when she heard a voice like chimes ringing in her ears.

"You should be answering at this time. Did this girl really lose her mind or something?"

Liu Xinyu didn't know who spoke since she hadn't heard this voice before. She slowly moved her eyes to the nurse standing beside the doctor and then settled her eyes on Yi Qin who was also attentively waiting for her response.

"What is this girl looking for?"

Suddenly, Liu Xinyu saw a woman standing beside Yi Qin and she seemed to be the one speaking too. The problem was not that there was a woman beside her father's doppelganger, the problem was that the light could pass through that woman's body. Liu Xinyu looked at the 'woman' in shock and the latter also paused when their eyes met. However, Liu Xinyu immediately reacted and looked away as if the past two minutes hadn't happened.

"Girl, what's your name?" asked Dr. Zhou. "When Yi Qin brought you to the hospital we didn't find any identity documents on you. So, we couldn't inform your family either. Why don't you tell us how to contact your parents so we can call them here?"

Liu Xinyu also wanted to call her parents to take her home but could someone really make a call to the future?

"Ah..." Liu Xinyu parted her lips to speak and then held her head saying, "I can't remember."

Mentally, Liu Xinyu was cursing herself for not being able to come up with a better idea at this moment. She had to use the overused amnesia act from the cliche soap operas and she was a person who always had a million complaints about those plotlines. It must be retribution for speaking ill of the screenwriters behind their backs.

Dr. Zhou turned serious as he nodded and said, "Then you should rest some more. Don't think so much. You had a serious injury on your head. It's normal not being able to remember anything immediately. Relax for now." Then he looked at Yi Qin and added, "Follow me."

Yi Qin obediently followed him out of the ward. "Uncle, what happened to her? Is it serious? Does she have amnesia?"

"We can't rule out that possibility. But there is also a possibility that this is temporary. So, you should take care of her for now."

"Does that mean she doesn't remember how I was the one who injured her?"

"Don't look so excited, it won't change the fact that you hurt her. I'm hiding this from your family only because you are willing to take responsibility for your mistake but if you try to shirk it, I'll go and tell everything to your grandfather!"

Yi Qin wilted immediately when he heard that, "I'm not that heartless. Why would I leave her here to fend for herself in this condition? Besides, if I was so heartless, I wouldn't have carried her for two kilometers before getting a taxi."

Dr. Zhou hummed in response before turning to leave. Yi Qin decided to go and buy something to eat for Liu Xinyu first. But as he neared the hospital entrance, he saw someone who made him scared out of his mind. He rushed to hide behind the pillar as he closed his eyes and prayed piously, "Don't let the temptress of torture see me here or I'd be so dead. I am invisible. Yes, I'm not here!"

"Do a better job at hiding if you don't wanna be found, little trouble."
