Before Caleb could answer or utter another word, the line on the other end went silent.
A frown made its way to his rest between his brows as he pondered over the words that Emily had said to him over the phone, the same few words replaying at the back of his mind.
A flicker of doubt and suspicion flashed past his eyes and an unsettling feeling enveloped him in that moment. Why did she want Alexandra to come alone? More questions popped into his head and he looked as if he was deep in thought.
"Alone?" He mumbled to himself under his breath, the crease in his forehead deepened. "Why would she..."
Then, he felt a light squeeze in his hand which snapped him back to reality. His eyes immediately glanced down to look at Alexandra who was staring back up at him with her doe eyes that were still slightly puffy from all the tears she shed earlier.
