The two women were staring at one another intensely as tension continued to brew between them, growing thicker and thicker as she held her eyes captive. A heavy silence was stretched between Kathy and Hannah, but it was soon broken as they were jolted back to reality by an unfamiliar voice that came from behind.
As if on cue, the three of them turned their heads around to be greeted by one of the doctors. Kathy rushed over with Ethan as soon as it registered in their heads. They were looking at him intently, examining his facial features to get a hint as to what was coming next. His eyebrows were furrowed together in concentration, and his face didn't wear a smile. They knew it couldn't be good news.
"I'm sorry, the baby didn't make it. We tried our best."
They stopped listening after the first few words.
