Curiosity brewed inside Ethan and questions started to pop into his head when he heard his mother's voice come through from the other side of the line. But before he could open his mouth to ask or say anything, he was greeted by the sound of the soft beep that signaled that she had just hung up on him.
He didn't think too much about it, but instead, the corners of his lips curled upwards into a small smile as delight was swimming in his eyes. He was just happy that he finally had a place to go, but more so that he no longer needed to stay with Hannah and could easily avoid her if he wanted to.
The smile that was once plastered across his face quickly faded and was replaced with a frown that settled between his brows when he finally pushed open the to the house and his eyes landed on a pair of familiar brown eyes.
"Ethan!" His name left her throat in a soft voice as she stood up from the couch when the sound of the doorknob twisting open reached her ears.
