Alexandra could almost feel her body relaxed, her features softened and her posture became at ease when her eyes fell on Caleb's concerned dark eyes as he stood by the door. She let out an inaudible sigh of relief when their gazes matched. For a moment, he was all she could see as everything else blended away into the background.
Caleb had intentionally dropped by the café that afternoon, wanting to surprise Alexandra with her favourite Thai Takeout for lunch during her break. But the smile that once stretched across his face from the excitement of the surprise quickly faded when he saw two familiar figures standing in front of him. He marched towards them, closing the distance in a few large strides.
He stopped to place the food down on the nearby table and instinctively, his arm reached out to grab Alexandra, pulling her closer to him as he glanced down to look at the spilled coffee on the ground and suddenly a surge of worry coursed through him.
