Allen stared at her blankly, trying to piece together her words. "An objection? Objection to what?" he finally asked.
Lilian raised a brow and smiled, intertwining her arm with his. "You weren't even listening, were you? What's on your mind?" she asked, her voice light but teasing.
Allen smiled faintly and leaned down to kiss her temple. "Not really. My mind wandered for a moment, but I'm with you now," he replied, deflecting smoothly.
"I said Aiden's adopted daughter is staying in the guesthouse tonight. I hope you don't mind?" she repeated patiently.
"No, I don't mind. She's one of us now. But was it agreed she'd stay in the guesthouse, or is this temporary?" Allen asked, his tone curious.
Lilian shook her head. "It's temporary. I only suggested it so she could spend some time with other kids her age, but she's not staying permanently. If Aiden wasn't dealing with his own challenges, he would have taken her back to his place by now."
