"What about Aiden? Are you really going to leave him to grieve alone?" Victoria asked, her voice heavy with concern. "You both lost the baby, and he must be hurting too."
Katie shook her head as tears streamed down her face. She didn't want to stay with Aiden any longer. Xavier, standing nearby, understood. He could see that his sister was done pretending, done covering up for her husband's failures.
"If she wants to come home with us, Mom, let her. She doesn't need to stay with him," Xavier said firmly. He would not allow Katie to return to Aiden, especially after what he had just learned.
Victoria hesitated.
"A woman can't just leave her husband like that. If Aiden agrees, then fine—but we need to do this properly," she said, trying to maintain a sense of order.
Xavier's frustration boiled over.
