Ryan hesitated, silently regretting bringing it up. He gripped the steering wheel tightly, avoiding her gaze. Maureen frowned, recalling how he'd mentioned wanting to tell her something days ago—and even earlier that morning, he had paused during an intimate moment, seemingly about to speak. Yet now, silence.
Her mind raced. Why won't he talk? Did he cheat? Or is it something about my past? She pouted slightly, crossing her arms but refrained from pressing further.
"Will you be free for lunch today?" Ryan finally asked, keeping his eyes on the road.
