Katie smiled, but it was forced.
"Aiden's doing great," she said, her voice steady despite the knot in her stomach. "He wanted to join me tonight, but his schedule is packed. He's meeting clients."
Victoria nodded as she sliced vegetables for steaming.
"Oh, that's wonderful. We should invite him for dinner one of these days."
"Mm-hmm," Xavier grunted, his expression unreadable.
Katie glanced at her brother uneasily. His noncommittal response carried a weight she couldn't ignore.
Xavier felt the urge to roll his eyes. Busy schedule, meeting clients? he thought bitterly. More like busy meeting a mistress and conducting 'business' in her bed.
